Pours a cloudy, light golden color. There's a decent-size head, but it disappears pretty quickly. No lacing whatsoever, except for one or two stubborn streaks of foam. The aroma is light and floral, with sort of a lemony smell to it. The taste has a little bit of a fruity sweetness to it, and it finishes with a grainy, slightly bitter aftertaste. The taste is far from overwhelming, and it's not all that interesting. Having too much carbonation in a beer is usually one of my pet peeves, but I think this one could have used a touch more. The body is a little thinner than I would like, and with this level of carbonation the mouthfeel is a little lifeless. Overall, this is pretty average. Despite the cloudy appearance, this isn't an especially thick or flavorful beer. It's not bad, but I don't see myself buying it again.

Mass-micro mediocrity.
Regard the Hefeweizen. It is a dusky blond liquid. It has the caramel-bun aromas reminiscent of the interior of any good all-American brewpub: malty and steamy. My nose senses nothing particularly "wheaty" about it. Once tasted, lingering hopes of a grand northwestern U.S. wheat were dashed. Pleasant, apply, nectarine fruit was sharpened like a pencil with chunky bitterness on the finish. Starchy, glossy caramel flavors sat like gel encased in a spool of tightly threaded fizz and astringent tannin. The finish awkwardly revealed watery, tangy, over-ripe nectarine sugars and raw seed resins.
Cluttered and clumsy, this is a pale ale with wheat in it (not a "Hefeweizen".) Points were given for its rustic breadth of flavor. Points were taken away for its tiresome composition.

Starts off very clear untill I swirl the last 1/2 inch into the glass. It's still not as hazy as most other hefeweizens. Deep gold color with a thin head.
Smells fruity and overly malty.
Not very sweet malt taste, slightly tart, with a bitter finish. Not bad. Just not good.
Highly carbonated, medium body.
Too dark. Too bitter. Too much carbonation. Not enough foam. Not spicy. Probably not enough wheat. Other than that, not bad.

Pours a hazy golden orange color with about a finger of head that drops fairly quickly to just cover the beer with a creamy froth. This is obvious an american wheat with the lack of any phenolics in the nose. The beer smells of lemon and lightly of malt. The taste is slightly lemony without a real overriding flavor associated with the malt coming through. The mouthfeel is moderately thick, good for a hefe, but it's a little more carbonation than I like. I just don't like this beer, but I'm not sure why. I guess its because there is none of the phenolic goodness I associate with a hefe. I just don't like how the beer tastes. I can only drink one of these every so often. This is nothing special.

I think it was O'Douls that used the line "Its what beer drinkers drink when they're not drinking beer." Kind like this. You can tell what it is but its all a front. No substance. Lemony scent and light bready flavor backing up the citrus. Watery and weak, it isn't an exciting brew, but not bad. Its hot as hell today, so crushing a few of these might be just what the doctor ordered.

I had this on tap at the Viking in Spokane. The Viking is a fun little beer bar that is worth checking out.
The beer was a light hazy yellow with a fluffy almost meringue head. Not much lacing.
The smell was of clove, banana & citrus. Not bad, but it could be a little more assertive.
The taste while not bad was not a top heffe. While the banana, clove taste was evident; the beer seemed slightly out of balance with not enough malt to moderate. It did do a good job of cutting the heat, but there are better hefes to there.
The mouthfeel and drinkability are solidly average.
I love the Grant beers, but I will pass on this one.

Pours a cloudy brown brew.
Has a fruity yeast odor; also has a tea smell.
Tastes tart and wheaty. Mild bitterness in the finish. Not much to report, not real flavorful but not awful either. The sourness gives it a nice refreshing snap.
Mouthfeel is OK.
It is drinkable in a bland way, would make an acceptable thirst quencher of dinner beverage.

Hazy yellow pour with no noteworthy head. Smells slightly yeasty but nothing really noteworthy. Very light sour wheat over the tongue with a bit of sweetness lingering. Very weak taste and nothing like what I was hoping. Not sure why this was a club selection. Average feel and drinkability although I doubt I'd choose it while out.

Pours a golden/yellow color with a white head that dies off fairly quickly. Leaves little to no lacing on the glass. The aroma was almost non-existent - but there was a faint malt aroma. The flavor was not nearly as interesting as I had hoped. Just tastes like a sweet wheat beer. Nice taste, just not what I was expecting.

Golden (cloudy after the swirl) with a nice white head and good carbonation. Nice light wheaty-grainy aroma with hints of citrus fruitiness and light floweriness. Tastes much like it smells. Light-medium bodied and refreshing.
An excellent session beer that I am reviewing in comparison to other American Wheat beers. No sense in trying to compare this to the Bavarian versions... Each has it's own nice points.
Per label: Malted Wheat, Cascade hops
Bottled: 09/24/03

Pours a cloudy golden color with a super-white head that quickly vanishes. The appearance is the best part of this beer.
It doesn't have much of a smell, certainly not a typical hefeweizen aroma.
I have to agree with many other reviewers that this should not be called a hefeweizen. It has none of the flavors that I expect from a wheat beer. It has just the teeniest hint of a bananna flavor, something I consider the hallmark of hefeweizen.
This beer does not even taste that bad. Just compared to the style, it sadly does not measure up. It is far too mild. What a shame considering Bert Grant's deserved reputation as the "Dean of Craft Brewing."

The most important part of a hefe, the hefe (yeast), is completely ignored in Bert Grant's Hefeweizen. There are no fruity notes -- not from the hops, not from the yeast. There's a residual graininess on the tongue, pleasant and to style. The aroma reminds me of a good German pilsener and the taste, too, is similarly reminiscent except for the faintest of a lemon finish. Quite odd that this would be classified as a hefeweizen (I think they would have done quite well calling it a pilsener), it barely makes the grade for an American wheat beer. There are very light hints of the Yakima Cascades but this rather exquisite hop is almost wholly lost to the wheat and 6-row (my guess) barley. The bittering is almost Saaz-like, but that might only be because the beer is very lagery and so my palette expects Saaz. This is a decent beer, actually quite a pleasurable beer to drink on a warm afternoon, but it is a complete failure at the style.
Relax, relax.

A lightly chill hazed golden amber color as it sets in the glass; head is modest but degrades quickly leaving a spotty lace to cover the glass, both an off white color. Nose is citrus crisp, somewhat sweet with the malt underlying it all, start lightly sweet, rich in malt with the top middling in its feel. Finish is biting in its acidity, the hops as per the style, dry lingering aftertaste, drinkable, but nothing to excite me.

Will a brewer who can make a noteworthy American wheat please stand up? Another ho-um American Hefeweizen. Beautiful golden hue, hazy with yeast. Aroma is wheaty and flavor is clean and slightly sour wheat malt. That's pretty much it. I found myself looking for a lemon to see if it would liven things up a bit. Easy to drink and thirst-quenching, but not a lot going on in the flavor department.

A very drinkable but very bland wheat ale. It doesn't have the uber-refreshing zest of a traditional Bavarian wheat, and it's without the somewhat potent hop bite of a lot of other American wheat ales. I'm not a huge fan of those American-ized beers, but I gotta say that even most of those are vastly superior to this.
And of course, every good written assault requires some degree of reasoning. The color was a nice golden hue, but this beer was very transparent -- hardly cloudy at all. The head was well-formed and lingered a qhile, but the aroma was a little weak and more piney than citrusy. Similarly, the taste was very weak with a small herbal/pinecone hop finish. Very simple and easy to drink but hardly a great beer.

After really enjoying Bert Grant's Perfect Porter, it was a real letdown to sample the hefe. It poured out, looked, smelled and tasted more like a wheat beer. No cloudiness, clove/lemon/banana or other Hefe-resembling characteristics were present in the appearance, aroma or taste. Keeping that in mind, the beer had a decent taste and was fair, over all. I wouldn't go seeking it out again, but I would drink it if given to me.
