Before returning for my 5 year undergraduate reunion at the nearby Washington University in St. Louis, I planned my attack upon The Wine & Cheese Place.

I had stopped by this place a few times in college, but never with the furious mindset of as a full-fledged beer geek intent on dropping some serious fliff and trucking it back home to the comparative beer desert that is Texas.

Now, you must understand that I consider myself a seasoned beer store visitor. I have recurring dreams of finding that rare bottle of Cantillon or old Bourbon County Stout stashed away collecting dust. Needless to say, I don't easily get overwhelmed. But when I walked into the Wine & Cheese Shop, I was like a kid in a candy store again: wide-eyed and mumbling to myself for at least fifteen minutes while my two friends browsed and shot me the occasional, concerned glare. The selection is nearly endless, with tons of european imports (Nogne, 3 Fontenein, Mikkeller, De Molen, etc) and american counterparts alike. Cold beer to go, and an equally as impressive price point. New-ish and classic releases from Odell's, Schlafly, O'Fallon, Boulevard, and Goose Island.

Staff was helpful, and although I didn't have anyone try to 'help' me while I shopped, they were kind enough to help me load the 4 cases of beer into the trunk of my car. Best $250 I've ever spent.

P.S. - their scotch selection is other-worldly as well...

Broad geographic selection of beers, including a lot of stuff (European and other global craft beer) that you just can’t find anywhere else. Great communication via social media and the blog which keeps you in the know of all the latest beer releases. Very cool collaborations with local breweries: they donate used whisky barrels to brewers for special releases! Shelf space is somewhat limited as wine and spirits take up a lot of the store. One of my favorite places to visit!
