poured smoothly with very little head.
aroma had hints of caramel, malts and coffee. the taste on the tongue was very bubbly , but not over bearing. Definitely not a typical stout feel almost like a pilsner feel. The flavor was pleasant, not overpowering or over bitter but eventually smoothed out at the end.

Poured from 330mL bottle into a dimpled mug.

Appearance: black body with just a little bit of a ruby around the edges when held up to the light. Head is a finger of frothy tan foam. Looks good to me!

Smell: sweet and richly roasty with some dark tobacco aromas and perhaps something with a little umami. To me, this is much more of a foreign export stout than a dry Irish stout, but as the former, I like it.

Taste: richly malty, and rather sweet, with a bit less roasty character than the aroma but plenty of that raisin, date, tobacco character that I like so much. Definitely up my alley.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good level of carbonation and a nicely smooth creaminess. I was expecting more body, given the sweetness and ABV, but even though it's not huge it is silky. Nice!

Overall: a solid beer in my book. Like I said, this is definitely more of a foreign/export stout than an Irish dry stout (it's not dry at all!), but in that category, it's works for me.

Dark brown pour turns black in the glass, with a dark tan foam head a coupla fingers high... Bittersweet and somewhat dry, darkly roasted coffee and malts, hint of char... Sweetness is mild, bitterness is moderate; soft feel, smoothly carbonated... I could see buying it if it's what's on the shelves over there - nothing to quest after, but a good enough stout - identified as an " authentic Irish stout" on their website... Enjoyable and worth the try - assuming you dig stouts, or are looking for a tick lol...

Echigo Stout pours into my glass jet black with a dense, cream colored head.
Taking a sniff, Echigo’s aroma is sweeter than I expected. Echigo’s aroma is also more subdued than I expected, given that it’s a stronger than average stout. It starts off with the sweetness I’ve seen in milk stouts. From there, I find hints of deep malt and the obligatory roasted grains. The aromas are very pleasant, just not as assertive as you would expect from a strong stout.
Echigo Stout is full bodied, lush, and smooth. Malt flavors come forward in a way similar to dried fruits somewhere between raisins and dates. Up front smoothness gives a brief illusion of sweetness before moving into darker, maltier flavors. Towards the finish there’s a hint of roasted grains, giving a finish similar to what you’d find in a dark roast coffee. Roasted coffee moves into a brief, dry finish.
It’s fine, but nothing in this stout really stands out in any way. The aroma isn’t as robust as I would expect in a stout, let alone a stout over 6% abv. The mouthfeel is smooth, the finish is roasted but there isn’t an overall balance to the beer’s flavor. Interesting example of the style, but there is some room for improvement in my opinion.

The beer pours a nice brown and creamy head that looks pretty good. The beer itself is a very nice dark chocolate brown that looks like it's black. It's nothing earth shattering but looks solid.

The smell is decent. It has a mix of roasted barley and light cocoa note with a nutty note that dominates the smell.

The taste is decent. It has a more roasted malt note and moderate bitter hop note as well. There is a light chocolate and nut in the finish alongside a chocolate.

The feel is good. It has a medium body that is a bit thin and has a dry finish. There is a light but tingling carbonation to it.

Overall, pretty good. It has a good flavor for an imported beer that I would probably get again.

330 ml bottle, no dating that I noticed on the label or bottle. Served in a Spiegelau stout glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like roasted malt, caramel, dark bread, coffee, cocoa and nuts. For the most part I think the taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but there's also some molasses and dark fruit (raisin, dates, blackberry) flavors in there too. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit coating with a moderate amount of carbonation. Drinks easy enough. I think it's a good overall stout, and it sure doesn't seem like a 7% one to me. Wish I would have bought more than just one bottle, definitely worth a try!

Poured into a Pint Defiance tulip. The body is black with a tan finger head. Aromas consist of dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, carmalized sugar, and a hint of dark fruit. Flavors are the same. There is a long lingering robust aftertaste. The feel is medium bodied with low carbonation.
