Stopped in here last Saturday night around 6pm before a concert at the Middle East. Pretty standard Irish pub decor, beer signs, and knick knacks. Service was very good, the bartender was very friendly and chatted with us for a while. Beer selection was only a slight bit better than most Irish pubs. Some drafts that I remember seeing that stood out as not run of the mill would be Radeberger, Kronenbourg 1664, Murphys, Paulaner, etc. Nothing great, but not horrible. In bottles, same thing, but they had Tucher bottles for $5 served in proper hefe glass, so I grabbed one of those. Prices were decent, $5 a pint. We didn't get food, but the people next to us did, and the burgers and fish 'n chips looked really good. If you're going to drink only in Central Square, I'd say that this is your best bet.

A good, solid Irish pub that really has nothing going against it. Atmosphere is small and intimate with a lot of wood and decorations from all over various parts of Ireland. There's a dart board and pool table in the side room with a few tables too. Service was very respectable as a waitress came to us immediately when we sat down. Selection isn't outstanding but it's good and definitely above average for a Boston bar. They had a couple Fullers beers on draught and a few good local micros, plus the usual ubiquitious micros (Sam A, Sierra Nevada) and uninspiring foreign imports. I didn't try any food and didn't see a menu. Prices were reasonable given it's Boston. I recommend this place if you're looking for a good Irish pub that's simple and effective.

Ahhhh, what is this even doing in the database? Yet another cookie cutter Irish pub with the same fifteen or so taps on, and like any other Irish-themed pub, full of the local's sponsored footie or rugby team getting hostile on a Friday/Saturday/whatever night. Never had very good experiences at this joint, beer-wise, although it did fare well as the last stop in a night of crawling when my taste buds were completely shot, so there's that for the place. I think the most interesting thing about this place has been the bags of chips, or "crisps," that I didn't recognize behind the bar.

The Field is located in the heart of Central Sq. in Cambridge on Prospect Street off of Mass. Ave. The atmosphere provides a nice Irish pub feel. The main area appears to be divided into two sections. The large room when you first enter has a nice bar showcased. The seating is cool with good space for tables.

Strong authentic European pub vibe that works. Solid beer options that include Anchor Steam, Magic Hat Fat Angel, Buzzard's Bay, Murphy's, Bass, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Guinness. The Guinness pints are for real and were poured nicely.

There is a very limited menu here. Options are minimal, but the food will satisfy. Basic pub food. Greasy and convenient.

Service was average and I'll leave it at that. Could have been better without question, but it wasn't so poor that it merits reduction in rank.

I like this place and will probably go back again when in the area. Some good beer options with a cool, raw feel inside.

A buddy of mine lives right around the corner from this place and since it is his neighborhood bar, we had to check it out. Typical Irish pub look and feel --very woody with subdued lighting and relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

The usual selection of beers were there (Sam, Harpoon, Guinness, Smithwicks, etc.) but it was better than average as they had some Anchor OSA bottled and SNCA on-tap. They also had some seasonal offering from Magic Hat that was a porter of some type that I had never tried before so I got that one of those too.

Service was decent and so was the quality/freshness of the beers we tried. I should note that the bathrooms in this place are kinda nasty. They use so much disinfectant (urinal cakes) in there that you come out of the bathroom and smell like Johnny Bowl. This is probably my biggest gripe about the place. If the bathrooms are this nasty -- how clean can the kitchen be?? Needles to say, we didn't try any food. I would say it is definitely worth checking this place out if you are in Central square but not to make a special trip just to come here.

It's Thanksgiving night. You want a pint. I came here and was probably the only American in the place. The crowd, although mostly Irish transplants, was of all ages. Being of Irish heritage, I blended in. My Murphy's tasted good on my lips as I looked around this establishment. The side room with the darts, and I think a pool table, was quite lively. The main bar was just people holding onto their glasses for dear life. This bar in my opinion is the best place to grab a pint in Central Square. It as though someone grabbed a bar in Dorchester and heaved it across the river.

I've long wanted to try this place, and I'm glad I finally did. It feels like a real pub to me, complete with locals who eye me as I pop in and go back to their Guinness. Not to mention the packs of Cape Cod Potato Chips tacked to the wall behind the bar. I'm tempted to ask for a pint and a bag of crisps.

It's divided up into a few rooms: the bar, games (pool and darts), and a surprisingly well-lit side room. A game of pool clicks counterpoint to the conversation at the bar--not all in English neither. There's about a dozen taps with a respectable selection. They had a special on Magic Hat. I find the side-room most welcoming: embraced by bench seats with faded upholstery and high wooden backs around small wooden tables.

A comfy place to hang out.

The quintessential Irish Pub, and one of the best in Cambridge. The Field is not one of these Anglo-Irish nouveau pubs that still has cookie-cutter edges around its sides. Run by Irish, with well over half its patrons being Irish.

Atmosphere: is what you'd expect from a true Irish pub; crappy UK-music on the jukebox, dark woods, small nooks and crannies and plenty of drinking room. You feel at home immediately and your drinking head awakens for some pint knockin'! The bar is rather small, so your chances of sitting at it on a busy night are slim to none ... your best bet is to seek a spot in the back room and watch the pool and darts.

Beer & Booze: full bar, plus about a dozen plus beers on tap (the usual; bigger local brews and well-known imports), and a handful in the bottle. Buzzard's Bay Lager on-tap is awesome, and oddly it's about the only place you'll find it on-tap in and around the Boston/Cambridge area. Murphy's and Guinness is poured to perfection.

No food that I know of, but they do have a kitchen which I haven't seen in use for the 6 years that I've been coming here. You can bring or order in food though.

Dart board in the back, and a cramped mini-pool table set-up, both of which get plenty of use ... so be prepared to put your name down on the chalk board if you want a go. Most of the lads here are quite good if you're looking for some good competition.

Always a great place to nip in for a pint or make an evening, or even a day, out of. One of Central Square's finest places for a pint, and a must stop on your St. Patrick's Day crawl.

Everyone has said it all - a typical Boston Irish bar with your typical Interbrew taps and Guiness. Nice surprise was the Buzzard's Bay Lager. I would go again if I was walking through the nieghborhood since its worth a stop on your way for a quick stout or Buzzard's.

I used to visit this place regularly on the weekends in the mid 1990's. Things have not changed much. The bar is located just around the corner from Mass. Ave., with a red front. This was the location of a dive "locals" bar back in the 1980's, and I think much of the interior reflects that. For example, the bar itself is wooden and worn and seats about 12, though on the busy weekend nights, the stools get pushed aside for better access to the bar. There are booths in the main room, as well as in the side room that has a pool table and darts. There is a good stereo sound system. No TVs. Windows on the front. Ceiling fans keep the air moving, though the place does have air conditioning.

As for the beer, they have 16 taps, though Guinness is on twice, and Magner's cider is on once. They usually have at least one regional brew such as Magic Hat or Buzzard's Bay, and the others are standards such as Murphy's Stout, Stella Artois, Hoegaarden, Bass, Boddington's, Harpoon IPA, Sam Adams, Heineken, etc. They offer about 10 bottled beers, but nothing noteworthy here. You will notice most of the beer drinkers are drinking pints of Guinness or Murphy's. They pour an excellent pint, albeit a bit on the cold side. They accept cash only, and do not like to run tabs at the bar.

The clinetele is ecclectic with a large number of Irish transplants, and tends toward the younger crowd. You will hear a lot of Irish accents here, from the customers as well as from the staff.

I think they offer limited food at limited times, but I don't think I have ever tried any in all the years I have been visiting this place.

Overall, a good place to stop in for a pint of stout if you are in the area.

More or less a quick and easy pub in Central Square, Cambridge. The usual Irish Pub beer on tap though they did have Buzzards Bay Lager which was a plus.

They seem to have a more traditional feel to them yet a younger crowd hit this place hard on the weekend. They do a good Black and Tan or Snakebite.
