A 660ml bottle with a BB of March 2014. Picked up a little while back from Trembling Madness in York. An IPA brewed to celebrate Rooster's 20th anniversary - contains a plethora of hops.
Poured into a Duvel tulip. Bottle conditioned. A hazy orange-amber hue with medium carbonation. Produces an enormous head of creamy white foam with good retention; this slowly reduces to a thick surface layer. Slight lacing. Aroma of fruity hops with hints of grapefruit, lime, citrus, melon, faint tropical fruit, grass/hay, a twinge of spice, mild caramel malt and earthy yeast. Less intense than expected but nicely balanced.
Tastes of fruity aromatic hops and yeast, with a dry, bitter finish. Notes of mild grapefruit, orange peel, citrus, faint tropical fruit, grass/hay, earthy yeast, subtle caramel malt and stewed hops. Well-attenuated, followed by a restrained, leafy bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with pleasant carbonation and good body. The yeast seems to coat the palate. Somewhat astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of bitter aromatic hops, dry, earthy yeast and mild caramel.
A decent IPA, though it didn't blow me away. After reading the list of hops that were added I was expecting a more vigorous character. Looks great, with a huge, lingering head. The aroma and flavour have a good measure of fruity hops and earthy yeast, underpinned by subtle malt. Good body - perhaps a shade more carbonation would be nice. Overall, a well-crafted brew but with an understated hoppiness that seems closer to an English IPA. Worth trying if you stumble across it.
