First had on cask at the Bridge Hotel in Newcastle on 1 August 2007, found it again (thankfully) about 6 months later.

Appearance: Golden yellow in colour, fair clarity, but the slight haziness is appreciated ina good cask ale. A thick chewy, off-white head with good retention tops the beautiful body.

Aroma: Big, big Amarillo hop aroma punches you right in the face. One of the hoppiest cask ales I've found. The American character is appreciated in a land of earthy Goldings and grassy Fuggles. Good maltiness background to complement the orange/grapefruit character of the hops.

Taste: Grapefruit/tangerines are prevelant. Good malt character provides the balance needed. Sweet caramel plays with your tongue, biscuit as well, but it's truly the orange / grapefruit hoppiness that's surprises in this cask bitter. One of the few "English Hop Bombs" I've had in nearly a year of tasting.

Mouthfeel: Beautiful balance in this brew, just the right bitter/sweet ratio and a pleasant low cask carbonation appropriate to a good, real ale.

Drinkability: Easily downed 5 pints of this in August, with room for whisky afterwards.

Tasted by a half pint at the Devonshire Cat, Sheffield, on 16/04/2007. Served by a sparkler-fitted hand pump.

A: dark-yellow to golden in colour, coming with a thin, creamy white head with good retention, on top of a static body.
S: flowery fragrance and un-ripe lychees (obviously endowed by Amarillo hops?) are mixed with a refreshing flow of lime zests; malts and fruits intertwine elegantly here, skirted with a dose of tartness, honey, and butter.
T: quite malty at first, showing raw-ish hints of crushed calcium pills and nuts… quickly followed by herbal hop bitterness, more lychee fruitiness, and juicy malts. In the aftertaste the bitterness slowly intensifies and takes over from the hoppiness almost by stealth.
M&D: softly carbonated and fresh on the palate, this is not the best ale by Outlaw IMO, but the malt-hop balance is retained with care in this Blond Bitter. Not bad.
