Poured from a 500ml bottle into a straight pint glass.

Pours a nice looking colour, black with a tan head.

Smells quite strongly of coffee, can't go wrong there.

Tastes again, of coffee. Not so good this time as it seems quite one dimensional, as the coffee and dark burnt malts merge into one mass of coffee-like bitterness. Very little hops or the other 3 of the 4 malt types apparently used, and no aftertaste. Lovely texture though, that's almost perfect.
edit: +.25 as I've managed to find the hops

Overall quite a nice beer. Simple and straight to the point. I like that about a beer sometimes. It means I could very happily sit here with pint after pint of it. Would be lovely to have a bit more complexity but then again you can't have everything.

Coming in a 500ml slim brown bottle, not bottle-conditioned; BB 08/02/2014, served cool in a straight imperial pint glass. Notes: the front label subtitles the beer a “Traditional Coffee Porter”, while the back label describes it as “brewed using a blend of four malts, English hops and the addition of Taylors of Harrogate After Dark* Coffee”.

Appearance: pours a pitch black colour, coming with a well-lasting creamy light tan beer head, while the carbonation level remains unknown.
Smell: it’s thickly malty and roasty on the nose, hinting at dark vanilla chocolates, roast barley, black malts, sprigy spices, earthy hops like Fuggles, uplifting aroma of overripe plums, and an unmistaken trace of bitter-sweet coffee candy, which manifests itself better after a good swirl. In each swirl, the aromas above present themselves at different levels, nicely complex, without giving a tiny trace of alc. at all.
Taste: a rich liquidy sweet coffee flavour gets blended with rather light-bodied dark chocolaty and roast malts seamlessly, quickly leading towards an aftertaste that is lightly earthy-hoppy, burned nutty, gristy, as well as bitter coffee-bean-ish; it feels a tad dry even, in the aromatic finish, and always with a sound level of fruity acidity. Not very complex, no, but the flavour profile has really shown a successful blending of dark malts and coffee.
Mouthfeel & Overall: very light on carbonation, medium-bodied for its alc. content, this decently flavoured Porter tastes interestingly light on the palate but never feels thin or falls prey to a possibly strong level of acidity from coffees. Very pleasant, and easy drinking.
