DATE REVIEWED: May 31, 2014... GLASSWARE: 22oz. pilsner... OCCASION: today Shan and I entered the 21st century and purchased smart phones... APPEARANCE: bubbly, translucent straw-gold body that holds a soapy yet meaningful white head for a few minutes--pedestrian from a distance or close up; zero lacing... AROMA: beefy, metallic malts couple with a somewhat funky yeast profile to imbue a biscuit and cracker aroma--not aromatic, but not a turnoff... PALATE: medium-bodied, warming with heavy aftertaste; nearly water at the teeth... TASTE: yeasty, doughy and metallic, evoking a hot summer sip of the garden hose; rather easy drinking, but an aftertaste that offers gas and malt liquor sweetness...some cardboard in the finish...OVERALLL: the 16 oz. stopper-top bottle is retro cool, but no getting around the fact that the beer is pretty average at best, with a better critic suggesting this combines the less desirable traits of a pilsner and a lager--pinging and fat, so sessioning is not on the to-do list with Groslch either...on the plus side, it is fun pronouncing Grolsch correctly in front of friends and bartenders....

Poor - from a 15.2 oz bottle - Nice poor, semi-aggressive poor produces a generous two finger, frothy head. It settles down rather quickly to a nice top lacing. No side lacing to speak of.

Appearance - Nice 18k gold, dark straw, medium amber. Clear with a good amount of carbonation.

Nose - Nice light bready/cereal/hay from the pilsner malt. Along with the hops which really come through. You can smell the Perle/Hallertau hop distinctly. Nice lemongrass, olive, and some spice; clove, coriander, ginger. Over all a medium nose that is definitely present and pleasant.

Mouthfeel - Excellent mouthfeel, a little fizzy, not much, a little watery but not bad; overall an extremely easy drinker.

Taste - With 30 IBU, there is a very nice medium bitterness to this lager that I really enjoy. The water tastes a little hard/mineral/slate making for a slight metallic tang. The malt for me is pushed back. There's a slight toasted barley but it's faint. Mostly just the hops. Floral, grassy, apple, pear; a little olive. This beer isn't sweet like a Heineken. Mostly sour, semi dry, dry fruit, lemon and grass/olive. Very nice.

Finish - Nice lasting medium bitter finish. Some bitterness on the sides of the tongue, mostly on the middle and back of the mouth/throat. Bitter/sour lemongrass and slate on the finish.

Overall - I've enjoyed many a Grolsch all over Europe. A very nice all time of day poor. I always try to keep some in my fridge.

Food Pairings - Olives, Gouda Cheese, Summer Sausage, Bratwurst, Currywurst, Pizza, Sauerkraut, Stroganoff, Mussels, lamb and most especially when it's in Gyro's.

. A very decent session lager in my opinion. A step above the other global brands for me anyway. Not the best but not anywhere near the worst. I really do enjoy Grolsch. Never out of a can! Always, always out of a bottle.

5 litre keg.

Another beer for the masses. Golden pour with a white head that fades. The nose moderatley hoppy and floral. The taste is lightly hopped with a slighly sweet and light caramel finish. Some bitterness. A little more body than your average mass-brew. I don't mind Grolsch too much. I pretty much accept it for what it is.

Appearance – Extremely light yellow in color with pretty good head retention and some decent lacing.

Smell – There’s the tiniest bit of skunk to this one, but otherwise it’s your typical macro grain and sucrose combination.

Taste – The corn comes out big in this one. There’s nothing subtle about the flavor profile here. This one is nasty with a capital “N”.

Mouthfeel – Not quite as thin as most, but cheaply carbonated and not very quenching.

Sinkability – I’m pouring this one down the garbage disposal along with last week’s tuna casserole.

This beer has a pale golden color. Poured into a pint glass it produced a very thin head that diminished very quickly leaving practically no lacing behind. The smell didn't add anything to the experience. Flavor was light, thin actually. Rolling this over the tongue it feels watery, with a light bittering that seems is the only thing that came from the hops used for this brew.

Drinkability? Uh, well, there's a lot better out there but a lot worse too. The watery body quenches about as well. If offered, I probably wouldn't turn it down but I wouldn't seek it out either.

12onz green bottle with best before date on the back.

The Appearence is a golden color with small white head. The smell have some hops in it.The taste is very nice, not the average import on the green bottle some thing, reminds me the food with a laurel( a spice) . A decent taste some water on it.

Feels good in th mouth very easy to drink.

good to excellent all aroound brew. Normal apppearence and smell for the style of beer it is. Not quite as bitter was i was expecting. Still an overall pretty good taste. My favortie is still beck for the style but this is still good. Astringenty taste but nothing overly excessive. Felt good in mouth, better colder though. Also for drinkability colder the better, cold will not ruin the flavor of this brew and will make is go down easier.

Poured from a bottle, brought all the way from Holland by my loving sister-in-law... God bless her soul, she remember my beer habit.

Shared with a friend, so some cumulative feeback.

Poured into pintglasses, with a large, fluffy white head that stuck around for a good portion of the drink. The color is a deep gold, no cheap straw yellow here. The carbonation is very active, streaming up the sides of the glass in more than a dozen tight columns.

Immediate recognition on the nose, but my friend and I can't place it... fruit of some sort, maybe grapes and perhaps... honeydew? Very fresh, with a hint of a full malt and just a whiff of hops. Anyhow, no lack of smell on this brew.

Taste is sweet, any sweeter and I normally dump a brew, but this seems to work. A nice blend of fruit flavors, a sweetish, deep malt and just a tiny pinch of hop at the end. The mouthfeel is full and thick.

An enjoyable brew for a mass Euro-lager.

Presentation: 12 oz green bottle, “Ingredients: water, malted barley and hops” stated on the back label. No freshness date.

Appearance: Weathered straw colour has a great clarity, fluffy white head settles down to a bubbly stick blanket of lace.

Smell: Husky grain with a mild skunky imported lager aroma. Hops range from a ghost like skunk to herbal in the aroma.

Taste: Smooth, almost buttery, mouth feel that brandishes a half hearted crispness that is a bit astringent. Moderate body. Grassy, grainy and a tad veggie / herbal. Grassy and grainy from the malted barley, taste of fresh cut hay and crackers. Veggie and herbal from the hops, tingling bitterness balances the brew and the flavour gives flavours of fresh herbs and leafy undertones. Light sprig of alcohol in the mouth, not too dry and not expressively sweet but a little bit of both in the after taste.

Notes: Not as coarse as other lagers from Holland that come to the US. All of the herbal and grainy flavours still make it somewhat of a chore to drink. Pair it with some grilled turkey sausage and kraut.

I was expecting something like Heineken, but boy was I surprised. This is good stuff. It poured a distinct dark amber with a modest head. The taste is bold for a Euro lager. Taste is malty and smooth. Decent hoppiness. I liked this a lot and will drink it again for a cool change from typical boring green bottles.

Best before date of 6/04 (yeah fresh beer!), 16 ounce swing top bottle.
Straw color, loose head, larger bubbles. Grassy, cabadgy nose.
Light bodied, medium carbonation. Clean flavor, simple lager, not a whloe lot going on ere flavor wise. Refreshing and fairly balanced. No off flavors noticed. The swing top add some character and brings back the memories (used to think this stuff was the best brew around when I was 17)
A pleasant enough quaffer.
