A very pleasant wheat beer, brought in to the LCBO. Inviting fresh wheaty aroma, with some citrus. Well balanced, on the sweet side. Enormous head,which is how I pour it, and an easy mouthfeel. Some creaminess from the foam, the body was middling. A bit of citrus. What Grolsch can do.

Beautiful pour. A wonderful murky orange/yellow. Big fat snow white head with excellent lacings.

Plenty of banana on the nose. Hint of citrus.

Disapointing taste after such a promising appearance and aroma. Slight clove spiciness and a hint of banana, maybe a little bit of alcohol. Not a standout in any area, rather plain.

Fairly thin mouthfeel, easy drinker.

Would be a good intro to the style.

As a former wheat beer lover I thought to give the Grolsch brewery another chance, though knowing that there never has been a great beer brewed under their label.

Wrong choice.

L: okay ofcourse, but have you ever seen a wheat beer that didn't? The top is always okay;
S: brrr. Typical smell of a dish-cloth that has been lying too long; next to that a bit citrus;
T: the dish-cloth is gone, but there's not much to mention; not really bad, but with the fear in mind to have to smell the next sip...
M: okay, thin but that's also not new for a wheat beer;
O: change the smell and the beer will be an average, drinkable beer; in this form I was glad to spoil half of the bottle.

Bottle pours a hazy banana liqueuer with half an inch of white foam and offers decent lace.

Nose of wheat and a bit of coarse grain. Offers a touch of lemon and a notable spice component. Much more of a Witbier than a Hefeweizen in the aroma.

Taste follows the aroma with a subtle peppery spice and a pleasant feel and carbonation. Spice factors are limited but present, placing this brew a bit at odds to any style per se.

Overall not a bad quaffer. Offers a nice yet subtle spice character though no Bavarian influence. Not overly fruity and lacking much nuance but easy on the palate nonetheless.

Bottle: Poured a hazy golden color weizen with a huge pure white foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma of banana and cloves are easily detectable with some distinctive bubble gum ester notes. Taste is also dominated by some wheat notes with some ester of banana, cloves and bubble gum. Full body with some great carbonation and no discernable alcohol. I have to admit to being quite surprise by the quality of the product considering the brewery is not one of the most renowned for producing top quality products.

I came across this beer due to a promotional campaign in a local supermarket, featuring a special Grolsch Premium Weizen glass. However, compared to other (German) Weizenbiere I am not very impressed. It certainly looks good, the 45 cl corked bottle even comes with a handy pouring instruction (pour half, then close the bottle, roll it (!) then pour the remainder). Both smell and taste did not appeal to my taste. It's a bit watery, with only bland tones. Maybe it's the slightly higher ABV (usually around 5 %), I couldn't say. I'd put it in the same league as the Weizenbier from Lidl (Finkbrau), which definitely is cheaper...

A Grolsch brewed only 2 miles from my home, I had to try the ultimate summer beer style: hefeweiss wheat beer.

Colour golden with a good head, but disappointing carbonation.

Smell and, to a lesser extent, taste, of a good hefeweiss character, with malts, yeast, banana notes, cloves, citrus.
Just a bit faint.

Mouthfeel is watery. Smooth, but the lack of carbonation makes this a very average experience for a summer beer.

This is what I expected: a nice try from a big brewery trying to get into the specialist market, but just not great...
It's ok, but just not good enough in this league.

500ml Brown bottle (not a flip-top), best before 14 Dec 2008, drank 24 July 2008.

Poured into one of my Franziskaner Weissbier glasses (the only Weissbier glasses I own).

It looked a pale German version of this famous style of beer, cloudy, with a huge white head.

Lemons, other citrus aromas and vanilla, but none of my favourite Weissbier smell, Bananas!

The taste was spritzy, tangy, citrusy and dry, but it lacked something.

Grapefruit appeared in the aftertaste, but it just didn't have the full-on flavours or body of the better beers in this style.

5.30% abv, swingtop 450 mL bottle. Best before Dec 14 2008. Fridge temp into a weizen glass.

Amberish hazy body, huge ivory head fills up .5L weizen glass very well. A bit of lace, but retention isn't great.

Nose is remarkably alcoholic for 5.3% abv. Bubblegum, banana, brown sugar. Vanilla cake mix. Yeasty, but clean.

Very creamy mouthfeel from dense carbonation. Palate has banana, apple, bubblegum, warming finish. A lot of noble hop spice which I find odd in a weizen. Well balanced with some yeasty bitterness. Great for Grolsch.

Cloudy straw-yellow with an initially explosive and foamy head is noticed during the pour. The head retreats quite quickly however, and in this instance fails to lace.

Suprisingly the aroma is relatively flat, but some light fruit and other typical hefe characteristics arrive gently on the nose.

Citrus, bananna and clove are prominent flavours, again in-line with other popular hefe options. There is some very mild spice. Depite the flavour not being in-your-face, it's very pleasant and well balanced.

The mouthfeel is soft and delicate, with just enough carbonation to keep it feeling lively.

Overall it's a rather bright brew; a quality hefe indeed. Unfortuantely it doesn't do anything to seperate itself from other good hefe offerings.

Worth trying, and worth buying again.

A - Hazy gold color with a large foamy white head. Good retention with a slight lacing left.

S - Typical Hefe smells. Good amount of bready wheat smell along with banana and clove.

T - Starts with a malted, bready wheat taste. This leads into the fairly sweet banana, bubblegum, and wheat. Finishes with some lemon citrus and clove.

M - Medium to light body. Decent carbonation. Pretty smooth and creamy. A little more watery than other Hefes.

D - Pretty good. Light, smooth and goes down easy. The taste is pretty good and smooth.

Notes: Pretty typical Hefe. It is a little thinner than others but not bad. Pretty nice but not outstanding. Better than what I was expecting from the brewery.

It was good variation of a Weizen. It seemed to be a little adjunct for this style but it wasn’t bad. I am not sure if this is going to make sense but it poured into weizen glass with a clean golden haziness. There was a nice amount of white carbonation. The aroma was grainy but not as much wheat character as one might think there should be. After the hay like grain aroma settles down you get some tones of fruit and spice. The flavor has some clove and pepper but is for the most part mild. I felt the body was a little bit too watery for this style.

A pretty clear colour, doesn't really feels like an unfiltered weizen.
