had this one on tap at the brewery. I was shock that it was available this way as it is really strong beer. The color was a rich red and had a thick mouth feel. The alcohol was obvious from the aroma to the flavor. I think it pushes at 8% at least. I am glad i had a chance to try it but one was enough for me.

22 oz bottle, best by Jan 2009. Pours a hazy golden yellow with a frothy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet vegetal and cereal malts with some metallic alcohol.

The flavor is sweet sugary and bready malts and a little fruit with some plasticy bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, I didn't care for this at all. Too many off notes and overly sweet and vegetal. It is drinkable though. As I go through the bottle it mellows out some.

On tap at the Farmhouse in Emmaus, PA, served in a pint glass. This was a bright yellow beer and reminded me of North Coast's Pranqster. Unlike most Belgians styles, this was very crisp with of a lot of earthy white pepper and coriander notes. It's not so smooth and those spices dominate the beer and cover any subtler yeast or malt flavors. Not a bad stab at a strong Belgian pale ale.

Bomber with a BBD of Jan 08 pours a hazed straw/peach color with a about 1/4" of white head. Efferevescence is presnt throughout the entire sample. Alright lacing & a little bit of film works all the way down the glass

S: Big fruittyness reminds me of passion fruit. A little citric hops
surface as this warms

T: Fruittyness, tartness & lemon up front. A little bit of peppery spice & citric hops smack kick in as this warms, along with some coriander. Fisnishes fruitty (mostly lemon & & apples) , dry & tart

MF: Slick with low carbonation with medium body

Drinks alright; one or two of these will do, then its time to move on. But pretty quaffable for the ABV. Blondes aren't really my style (not just saying that because I'm married to a brunette). Great bang for the buck, I believe this was $5

Poured this goldish wheat colored beer into a beer mug. The foam that appeared when poured was a great amount that reduced to a lingering aftermath. The aroma is that of fruits coliander and hops. While the taste matches that it also gives some taste of cloves. Overall a great beer to sit down and enjoy!

The beer deposits itself in the glass a sparkling clear gold with a majestic crown of white upon the body, creamy texture, as it erodes slowly, the lacing forms a glutinous sheet upon the glass. Nose has a hop flowery aroma, sweet malt and a touch of fruit, fresh and clean, mouth watering, and a portent of things to come. Start has a delectable malt presence; hop spiciness at the back, top is medium in its feel to the palate. Finish has a determined acidity, the hops plentiful, with a modest sweetness leading to the dry aftertaste. Steamworks has become a favorite brewery.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a tulip glass while listening to Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables.

A - Pale, golden with a gigantic frothy white head.

S - Some yeast, spice, a burst of hops, malt, bread, overripe apple, raisins

T - Carbonated bitterness which turns into a sweet, pleasant aftertaste. Raisins, a bit of bread and malt, apples; cinnamon; warmth at the end with a slight bite of alcohol

M - Medium mouthfeel. The carbonation doesn't linger as much as I thought it would

D - This is no session beer but it's quite nice.

Overall, I like it. Even though the drink by date has long passed this seems to be a beer that will age well. The head on it is amazing and the beer itself reminds me of Orval just a bit. Decent.

Serving Type Sampled: 22fl. oz. brown crown top bottle. Features freshness date. Nice label graphics!

Appearance: Hazy straw in color. Completely opaque. Great 2 finger head that diminishes into a glass sliding, loose lace.

Smell: Sweet caramel malts, citrus hops and slight alcohol note.

Taste: This beer is pretty sweet right of the bat. I taste caramel malt and a balance of grassy hops. Alcohol is quite pronounced and slightly grainy. Finishes pretty clean with a mild grain alcohol taste.

Mouthfeel: Light to Medium in body, mildly carbonated.

Drinkability: Good, I liked this beer quite a bit. This beer actually reminded me a lot of New BelgiumÂ’s (Seasonal) Springboard. I would probably by this in the future. I obtained this brew from the local brewery rep. after I had a bad bottle of their beer. Steamworks customer service is A+.

Appearance is copper with a substantial head. The smell is hops, hops, and more hops. The taste is (brace yourself) hop-dominant, with a nice caramel backing. The mouthfeel shows good carbonation and a nice slick feel to it. The drinkability is good, but this isn't my favorite style.

A room temp bottle from Mentor. I am pouring into a snifter.
The beer pours a bright clear gold color with thin bleached white surface layer of head.
Aroma is caramel and toffee but also some grassy and piney hops. I also detect a very faint soapy scent in the background. Interesting.
The first sip reveals a fairlylite bodied beer with very fine carbonation.
The flavor starts with a hint of caramel then some piney hops and a shot of peppery alcohol in the middle that carries to the finish. The alcohol is not super appealing. The beer is an okay one to drink, but a little poorly hidden alcohol and the thin body keep it from beeing good to very good.

A soft golden/amber pour, a bit hazy. Good development on the head, tiny bubbles of foam, some 'chunkiness'.
Biscuit, raisin and a bit of apricot hits through the aroma. The sweetness is masked a bit by the hops and pine smells.
Taste starts as a sweet malty brew, but quickly settles to a good balance of yeast, citrus and pine. I thought there would be a big finish as far as the hops go, but it faded as well.
A clean, light finish, yet I was a bit disappointed; mostly of my own expectations, though.
A good brew.

Tap poured into short stemmed goblet. The printout at the bar said it was 8.5% abv. At $8 a pour, I hope they were right. Consumed 12/26/2009.
A: Honey brown. Pours little to no head. Fine CO2 trails from bottom of goblet. Sticky white lacing left around whole goblet.
S: Sweet light malts with banana and melon. Crisp lemon peel.
T: Sweet malts are followed by green apples. Citrusy and a very light hop crispness.
M: Light on tongue. High CO2 leaves prickly feeling on tongue.
D: Very drinkable, light on palette, and very crisp.

Best by Date of January 2007, Sampled March 2007
Pours a brilliantly clear, full gold color and is topped by an initially two finger thick, frothy, somewhat quickly disappearing, pale, off-white colored head. The aroma is a nice mix of grassy herbal notes offset by a ripe berry like fruitiness. There is a touch of warming alcohol aromatics that come to play towards the end as well as a hint of dry malt character and even something that reminds me of plastic.

The taste is lightly sweet, again accentuating a soft berry flavor. The finish has a grassy, almost astringent finish to it and there is a solid hop bitterness that runs throughout the flavor profile. While this beer does have some soft malt sweetness, the overall impression is dry. I think it is because this beer dries out considerably in the finish, where the herbal / bitter hop character comes into play. Quite simplistic malt and hop character here, coupled with the clean yeast & high alcohol it just doesn't do it for me.

Still this is a much better beer than I was expecting, still it is a bit too green and astringent in the finish for me and with such a light malt profile, the alcohol comes through a bit more than I would like. I bet this would be quite tasty if fermented with a funky Belgian strain of yeast though.

Picked up from Argonaut on my trip to Denver

A: Pours a nice light golden hue with a nice 3/4 finger head that is white and made up of thousands of tiny bubbles. Some carbonation noted with okay retention. No lace.

S: Nice sweet summer fruits like apples and pears up front. Hints of grass and citrus hops round things out.

T: Nice and fruity with hints of pear skin up front. Notes of lightly spiced apples in the middle before the hops kick in. Citrus hops are there in the finish but not too overthetop. A light yeast like component as well.

M: Medium to light in body with ample carbonation, very dry finish.

D: Fairly drinkable with a somewhat unique taste.

Very diabolical. Poured a semi-cloudy light yellow-orange color with a good head when poured but quickly died down and hid to the side of the glass.

The aroma is light overall for an IPA, but a good floral nose that streaks of Mt. Hood (as noted on the bottle). Mostly a sweet finish. The taste remains very similar. Hops are the dominate characteristic with an emphasis on finishing hops. A good floral taste but no real bitterness to speak of. The malt is nonexistent was well. Hints of sweetness and a touch of honey flavor at the end.

The body is light but the taste is smooth and easy to drink. I would have like more complexity but as you go along the alcohol starting catching up to you. I would have liked more complexity but it is an above average IPA.

Picked up a bomber at AJ's at the end of October for $5.79. Best before Jan 2007 whoops...

Beer poured a golden color with an OK white head that is sustaining well and leaving a nice lacing. Nose is of sweet malts with a hint of citrus. Taste is fairly well balanced with a leaning towards the malts. It starts sweet but has enough hop power to finish somewhat crisp. Mouthfeel is very full for the style and it is suprisingly well carbonated despite its advanced age. Overall drinkability is good. This is a somewhat unique brew, probably a double blonde, that I would recommend one to try.
