Brenda is finally here, so I can have one more brew while she eats... Poured into a 10oz goblet.
Thin white head.. pretty brown and very clear ruby highlites when held to a light.
Waaaay more malt driven than any American Brown I've had in a long time.. this should be in the English Brown category despite what the menu and the original reviewer says... hops are there, but are spicy with not hints of citrus.
Flavor is very toasty... lite chocolate.. and just enough caramel sweetness to really tie things together... good body and carbonation... I could easily session this one and not get bored for a while.
A very well made beer... and don't think it's "American".. because it isn't. :-)
Thanks to everyone at Barley Browns for the hospitality.... I am gonna make this a stop every time I come through and will damn sure be bringing growlers next time... I also want a tour damn it.

The owner / brewer at Barley Browns is a man named Brown. You might think this would be good cause to make brown ale the flagship beer here. Not so. Though this is one of Barley Browns four regular offerings, it is not a centerpiece of their lineup. And with good reason; the beer has problems.
The essential shortcoming of Barley Browns Brown Ale is its lack of clean taste lines. The flavor touches upon hazelnut and molasses with a flourish of dark malts. But a competing surge of unwelcome brewing byproducts subverts these more inspired properties and defeats their intended ideal. The mouthfeel similarly suffers from this dysfunction.
