Poured into a tasting glass with the beer displayed half an inch of khaki head which quickly dissipated with very fast carbonation leaving no lacing. The beer is dark but translucent a brown-red but very much ruby when held to the light.
The smell is strongly of malt with a hint of hops. There is also a slight smell of sugar but very much to style.
Distinctly hoppy/bitter taste with little sweetness. Not particularly complex but fairly solid. The finish is actually quite nice as the initial hop flavor blends.
The mouthfeel is a little disappointing with little detectable carbonation despite the initial burst when poured. Also it seems slightly thicker than it should be.
While not particularly heavy I couldn't see this as a session beer, the hop balance is slightly off. That said I could see drinking it regularly, particularly with food.
