Located at the old Trotters restaraunt up the hill from the Meadows Racetrack, Sapphire's is an attempt to bring real, quality craft brew to the sea of macroswill bars in Washington County. The bar, separate from the rest of the restaraunt, has a nice collection of metal signs of various beers. There are 5 taps, including Yuengling and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, with a line for a 6th. The bottle selection was initially quite nice: Belhaven, Young's Oatmeal Stout, Guinness Extra Stout, Eliot Ness, Brooklyn Lager, Penn Gold, just to name a few, and Pat, the co-owner promises that even more are forthcoming, including several Belgians!! All of the beer prices were most reasonable.......the most I paid for a beer was $3.50 for the Young's!

The service was also most impressive. Every time I ordered a bottle, I received a fresh glass. In addition, the servers were very talkative when business was slow, and I discovered they had the same love of beer that I did!

The food was also quite good. When I went, I got some potato wedges with blue cheese sprinkled over them..........simply fantastic. The plate was huge (at least 10 wedges.......more than I could eat by myself) and the price was most reasonable! I've also heard that the sandwiches that they have are fantastic as well!

The first time I went (less than a week after its opening), I completely expected to be bored by another bland beer selection, and had to caution myself against getting excited...................how wrong I was! I'm glad that there is finally a place 10 minutes from home that has a commitment to serving quality brew and excellent food. I know I will return here time and again to enjoy good friends, good food, and good beer!

This bar is a craft beer lovers dream (as long as they live south of Pittsburgh). This bar is located just off Rt. 19, and it boasts of the best craft beer selection in Washington Country (a true statement). When you first walk in to the bar you see a cooler full of craft beer that includes such beers from breweries like Stone, Great Lakes, Victory, Penn, Heavyweight and Unibroue, to name a few. However, don’t go to this bar expecting to have a good draft, they only have a rotating Great Lakes tap. The food is very good. The service is good but lacks beer knowledge. The atmosphere is good; the bar has about 12 stools, which allows conversation.

Atmosphere: Local Washington Co. bar with a restaurant addition here, definitely a local crowd trying to hang out and enjoy their Saturday night karoke bumping not a bad hang out considering other beer options in the area. Quality: From the couple beers sampled I have no complaints at all freshness was there. Selection: A bit dissapointed in the draft selection here they had Coors light, Bud Light, Bud and Miller Lite along with the SNPA flowing a decent price. Service: Was different expecting a bottle right away it took about five to ten minutes to locate my bottle of Stone Ruination but it's all good can't complain that much I got my beer and at a decent price. Selection: Bottle selection is displayed in the cooler and I peeped upon a few Unibroue, Storm King, Stone, Heavyweight, and Troeg's to name a few. Best part however was the fact that I got a bottle of Stone Ruination for 6.50 doesn't get much better than that in this area. Food didn't get to it this time made a late night stop then off to Primanti's in the strip to fulfill late night hunger.

This is absolutely, positively, undoubtably, indubidly, my last week in Western Pennsylvania. My 3 month work stint has turned into upwards of 5 months and they keep changing the rules. We got redirected to Washington for a day last week. The place I picked to visit is the one that Beerflys I can trust ranked as the best place so we dropped in to Sapphire's on the way back North...
Upon entering, you're in what's like a lobby area, kind of an extension of the bar area off to the left of you and there's a dining area down to the right. I bellied up to see the 6 taps, 3 macros, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Yuengling and the Great Lakes Winter Ale. "Wells Hello", I says (My first sighting of the Great Lakes Winter Ale). Winter Ale was my first beer and I headed to the cooler for my second beer. They've got an attractive collection of regional bottles (4 Heavyweights, Victory, Troegs, Great Lakes, Penn) and it's always nice to see Brooklyn Lager out here (brings a tear to my eye). Imports? Yep. They've got Youngs and a good couple of Unibroues over there (yeah, that's right, you thought I didn't see you over there), what else? Oh yeah, Delirium, and the bigger imports (Guinness, Boddingtons, etc).
The bar houses about a dozen stools and there are a few tables adjacent. They've got a TV in the corner and some video games. Beers were inexpensive and service was easy on the eyes and attentative. Gotta like that.

Sapphire's is a new reastaurant and lounge that opened this week. Those familiar with the area, it's the old Trotter's restaurant location near the Meadows Race Track. It's a nice looking place, with separate dining and bar area. Currently has five or six taps in the bar, with Sierra Nevada and Yuengling among a few macros. Has a keg of Penn (Pilsner or Dark) on the way. SNPA draft is $2.25, never seen better than that. Nice assortment of micros and imports to start with, and plans to expand the selection quickly. One of the two owners that i talked to is into good beer, and it shows (perhaps the other one is, too). Young's Oatmeal stout, Brooklyn Lager, Great Lakes Dortmunder and Vienna Lager, Boddingtons, and St. Andrews are some of the notables. I don't think anything was over $3.

They're serious about offering great beer to Washington Co., something I've yet to see other than the Century Inn, which has higher prices (too high in some cases) and just seems too formal to me. I plan to stop regularly and support the new business and watch for improved selection. But in the first week, they've outdone just about every other bar in Washington county. And the service was top notch. I don't expect this to become another Sharp Edge or D's, but it has the potential to become the local beer mecca. And it's only about 2 minutes from work!
