This brewery closes for around two months between the summer tourist season and the snowmobiler season each Fall and Spring. Their web site warns of this but does not give precise dates. A telephone call ahead is highly recommended before a visit in the Fall or Spring since the location for this brewery is off the beathen bath.

This place saved my friend and I. We decided to do some winter camping and took a trip to Paradise, MI to visit Tahquamenon Falls. The temps were in the low teens, dropping below 0 at night, with 5+ inches of snowfall each night. We didn't even know this brewery existed, so when we showed up hungry and thirsty this place fit the bill. It's located right in the Park!

The Blueberry Wheat Ale was pretty great. It was a little watery, but we drank a growler of it that night. The food was really good too. We both had pasties, which after some time in the woods could not have tasted better.

Because we were visiting in the winter, and this is the U.P., we were the only one's in the brew pub. The bartender happened to be the owner, and told us how she got into brewing and starting this place up. It was really nice to be there at this time of year, as I'm sure in the summer with tourists running around it would not have been as laid back. Overall great place, and it really is located on some prime real estate.

My wife and I stopped here as part of a pub crawl in northern Michigan and the UP to visit the newer brewpubs (plus several others) that have opened since our last trip ‘up north’. This is not a new brewery but it was our first visit here. (We tried to visit here once before but caught them in one of the two seasonal closed periods.) Evaluating the beers and having dinner was our reason for the stop here.

The place was not busy, but we sat in the dining room rather than at the bar. The pub is a mix of a hunting lodge atmosphere along with a brewpub vibe because there is taxidermy on the wooden walls, and the stainless-steel brewing equipment is also in easy view.

We ordered a sampler flight of the 4 beers that were available ($4.72), and I’m glad we didn’t order larger pours. For a brewery that has been in existence for a number of years, the beers did not seem like a seasoned brewer had made them. They were close to style for flavor, but just generally weak and unexciting. We rated each of them at a C- grade.

Food-wise it was the same story. The menu has a good selection of items, and they were okay, but just not exciting for the two items that we chose for our meals.

Coming here was worth the out-of-the way trip to experience the colors of the Fall leaves on the drive, and for the scenery on the walk down to view the Upper Falls. It’s worth the time for a visit for those reasons, but not so for the beer.
