One of our favorite haunts when the wife and I lived in Mission Hills. Great spot for cramped pool, old-school aviation decor, nice tunes on the juke box and a wide selection of booze. Also a lot of good craft brews. I had many a 3pm Racer 5 here. Laid back and generally very friendly waitstaff. Evenings can get very busy. Plenty of good spots for food right up the street. Good representation of the plane-themed whiskey bar.

Disclaimer : I was only in here for one drink, and that drink wasn't beer.
I actually didn't even look at the beer list, or even glance at the taps. The reason? I was facing a wall of 600 bottles of whisky. The whisky menu is a goddamn book.
It was a fun atmosphere, even on a tuesday night. The bartender was able to find time to chat despite being fairly busy. It has a dive atmosphere but is classy...and suits a glass of whisky well.
I'm by no means a connoisseur of whisky, but the way they served it was new to me: two glasses, one on top of the other, whisky on top, rocks on bottom. I appreciated it.
Got a glass of Redbreast 15: something I've been eyeing for more than a year but wasn't ever able to legitimize spending $75 on a bottle. Pretty sure a glass of it cost me $8-9, which is dirt cheap in my book. I might be wrong on that though, this was in the middle of a night of bar hopping. Yes...bar hopping on a tuesday...I was on vacation! Sue me!

When you'd like to drop into a real bar, but maybe have a decent beer, here is a place in San Diego.
On the beers, they had several IPAs: Torpedo and Big Eye, and IPAs from Sudwerk, Green Flash, and the Mission Shipwrecked. Others include Guiness, Scrimshaw, Blue Moon, Stella, and most interesting, Brother Thelonious.
Great old mural on ceiling over bar with dirigible, flying boats, and the big hangars still at North Island. Neon everywhere, aviation photos on the walls, and the wall o' botles over the bar back-- more bottles than you have ever seen.
Lots of couples, very mellow, and the staff is very attentive-- taste anything you like. Margarita was reported to be good. A 50s Western on the box, tunes on the juke from 80s to Kinks to Patsy Cline.
