Pours a clear amber color with a great, frothy, off-white head. Smells of bready malts, cantaloupe, and something else I cant quite put my finger on. Taste is more bready malts, balanced out by the grassy hops. Theres almost a slightly sour tinge to it...not sure if it's slightly infected or not. Decent sessionable beer. Medium bodied, kind of flat. Not great, but not bad either.

(Served in a nonic)
A- This beer pours a clear dark amber body with a thin film of bubbles that fade to a ring of pale white foam .

S- The clean soft caramel dry malt aroma grows a bit as it warms but stays pretty soft.

T- The watery taste has a husky biscuit malt flavor and a touch of caramel sweetness as it opens. There is a bitter bite in the finish with some hop flavor hints.

M- The light mouthfeel has no alcohol heat but a touch of astringency and a soft scrubbing bubbles that boost the bitterness in the finish.

O- The harsh and rough taste is hard to get through, with the husky flavor and hops only coming through as a bitter bite.

Date tasted: May 11, 2013...
Glassware: Victory nonick...
Occasion: Mother's Day weekend...
Appearance: chestnut brown body with an off-white head that sits haphazardly...
Aroma: mellow hops with a bit of grass or damp hay--not much to denote whale of an ale...
Palate: smooth, easy-drinking with minimal impact at the teeth...again, Ahab wouldn't see a challenge in this...
Taste: a bit winey/grapey; mellow but not memorable...
Overall: Pass the harpoon--or a Harpoon....the bottle's simple image fascinated me into a purchase, but this pale ale pales to much meatier, mellower, enjoyable brews....

Pours a deep, slightly hazy amber with a nice 1" that slowly receded to a cover leaving a good amount of lace.

Smelled primarily of the bottle cap..a bit of hop presence was also noted .

Taste was hoppy up front..a bit fruity, slightly piney/resiny with a slightly sweet malt backbone. Hops came on at the moderately bitter finish. Mild carbonation and a medium body here.

Overall a nice example of an APA which I generally expect to be milder than an IPA. I'd recommend this and would have it again.
Cheers!

Awesome label. Awesome name. Never heard of it.

From notes:

Pours a nice clearish gold with a few moments of white bubbly head. Great beading, not much in the way of lacing.

Smells pretty fresh - grassy hops with some sweeter grain presence. Nothing too exciting but seemingly pretty well balanced.

The taste shows a lot of the same qualities. The lady-friend noted a strange mustard note though that bothered me for the rest of the glass. Maybe it's just in my head (or hers).

Very drinkable. This beer made for a great hot day on the lake.

A: The beer is slightly hazy yellowish amber in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high dense light beige head that gradually died down, leaving a thin head covering the surface and lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of floral hops are present in the nose along with some slight hints of citrus.
T: The taste is similar to the smell, except that it isn't nearly as hoppy and there are notes of earthy yeast and hints of caramel from the underlying malts. The hops also contribute a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and slightly crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation. The hops leave your mouth with a little dryness in the finish.
O: This beer definitely tastes like an American-influenced version of an altbier as it's a little more hoppier compared to the types of beers brewed in Düsseldorf.

This is perhaps the simplest label I've ever seen on a commercially brewed beer. That jibes with the idea of "Just Beer"

A very nice puffy head fills up a quarter of the glass, but it doesn't leave much lacing as I make my way through the bottle. Color is a nice amber, but the aroma is almost absent. It doesn't smell bad; it just doesn't smell like much of anything. Some faint citus hop notes with a little bit of grass.

Mouthfeel is very flat. Finish is clean. Taste, like the aroma, is fairly muted. This beer is interesting. It does a great job of being just a pale ale, nothing more, and I could drink a lot of these consecutively. But perception suffers when contrasted with more in-your-face hoppy ales.

Pours a nice deep copper color, crystal clear with a pretty thick head.

Slightly hoppy aroma with some nice bready malts too. Well balanced.

Delicious. A good note of hops (cascade) perfectly balanced by the aforementioned bready malts. Kinds like a mix between a pale ale and an ipa, as the brewer intended.

Crisp mouthfeel; great drinkability.

Awesome. Definitely THE goto session beer when its fresh. Which seems to be often. Sometimes called an "American Mild", it is extremely drinkable.

Poured a medium copper hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured soft caramel malts with a fresh herbal hop.

The taste consisted of a toasted caramel malt which was quickly balanced out by a lightly bitter grassy hop. There was a pleasant lingering herbalness detected.

The mouthfeel was toward the cleaner side of the style.

Overall a tasty and well balanced ale. As much an ESB as an APA in my opinion. Very quaffable.

Poured into a US tumbler pint glass from a 64oz. growler that was purchased at the brewery on 8/8/09, consumed on 8/9/09.

A: The beer is a coppery brown color, with a thin off-white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is of caramelized malts, a good amount of hops and some citrus.

T: The taste is well-balanced with sweet flavors of caramel and citrus, a nice floral hops bitterness that isn't over-powering and a hearty malt character. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Smooth and crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean.

D: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, decent kick, good representation of style as the brewery defines this beer as "a hybrid of a pale ale and an IPA," I believe it certainly hits that mark. Overall it's a nice beer to drink for a long time and one that I would like to see Buzzards Bay Brewing start bottling (tap only release).

22oz bottle purchased at Yankee Spirits, Sturbridge, MA.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 1 1/4" beige head over the clear copper brew. Frothy head lasts well, with sporadic chunky lacing. Aroma is lightly piney, with a sour tinge to it. Taste is sweet upfront, citrus tart in the middle, and closes with a bitter bite. Mouthfeel is smooth, and drinkability is okay. Wish the flavor worked better for me.
