I like this bar. They have a great selection with a bunch on tap. The bartenders are really nice and very attractive but don't know anything about beer. They new where the taps were for most of the beers which is impresive with over 65 beers on tap that constantly rotates but that was the extent of their knowledge. Every beer I got was poured to the rim not allowing for any head. This also hurt the scent of the beers which I feel effected the flavor. Smelling the beer while you drink it is really important and I didn't get that chance.

The food was good, this visit I had the fried mac and cheese and also the chips and salsa. The fried mac and cheese was good but wasn't crunchy like at some other places and I like it better that way. The salsa is good but the use the round chips that I don't care for. I have also had the spinich and artichoke dip which was good but came with the same chips.

Here's a list of what was on tap for the visit tonight:

Bud, Bud Light, Miller Lite, Strong Bow Dry Cider, Molson Canadian, Amberbock, Michelob Ultra, Great Lakes Christmas Ale, Breckenridge Vanilla Bean Porter, Sam Adams Winter Lager, Brooklyn Brown Ale, TommyKnocker Maple Nut, Blueberry Ale, Hoppin Frog Berry Ale, Honey Brown, Rolling Rock, Lefthand Sawtooth Ale, Ommegang Hennepin, Woodchuck Cider, Harp, Bass, Youngs Dbl. Choc. Stout, Beamish, Guinness, Boddingtons, Siberian Knight, Sam Adams, ThirstyDog Raspberry Ale, Great Lakes Holy Moses, Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold, Avery IPA, 60 Min. IPA, Cherry Wheat, Weinstephaner, Hoegaarden, Pilsner Urquell, Abita Purple Haze, Amstel Lite, Heineken, Coors Light, Great Lakes Eliot Ness, Mad Hatter IPA, Pyramid Apricot Ale, Racer 5 IPA, Hazed and Confused, Widmer Wheat, MGD, Shiner Bock, Sierra Nevada, 312 Urban Wheat Ale, Magic Hat #9, Arrogant Bastard Ale, Great Lakes Burning River, Newcastle Brown Ale, Franziskaner Weiss, Killians, PBR, Bell's Oberon, Abita Turbodog, Moosehead, Stella Artois, Sunset Wheat, Labatt Blue, Blue Moon, Bud Select, Labatt Light.

A grungy college bar that happens to have a very deep and strong tap list. The best of Ohio's micros can be found here: GLBC, Fatheads, Columbus, etc as well as Dogfish, Sierra, Left Hand, Oskar Blues, Stone, etc. You should only go for the beer; the menu is limited and the food is absolutely awful. The service was friendly and efficient but knowledge of what was served was in the customer's court, not the server's. There's better choices to be had in Akron and I will make them upon my return.

I am an Akron native and have visited 69 Taps many times over the years and have always had positive experiences. The crowd is hit or miss as are most bars in Akron.

As you walk through the door and descend the steps you arrive in a cozy little setting with a nice amount of TVs and a jukebox. The room to the left has another small bar, pool tables, darts, and restrooms. There is a very nice patio that can be enjoyed in the warmer months. Lots of tables and booths make for a comfy setting for groups. This is a pretty clean bar if you arrive before 1030 when the college crowd tends to roll in.

The servers are mostly college girls and are very easy on the eyes. This is great but most of them are lacking on the beer knowledge. The will provide you with a beer menu and allow samples of anything you want to try.

Tap selection is great with a very nice selection of beers that change from time to time. They also have the normal college crap beers. Liquor selection is adequate. Bottle selection is limited. I have a 95% success rate at taps but there have been a few times where the beer has seemed a bit flat.

Not a food bar!! I have ate here one time and the food was very mediocre.

While not perfect Taps is a very cozy bar with plenty of eye-candy and the best tap selection you are going to find in downtown Akron. I will continue to stop into Taps and I love the Friday eve "Super Happy Hour" from 4-9!!!

OK - so after reading the reviews, and since we were driving through Akron, we decided to throw caution into the wind and give this place a try. We were gravely disappointed and in retrospect, wished we targeted a different destination.

The bartender, a very attractive young woman, was absolutely clueless and couldn't tell you if a beer was a stout even if it had "stout" written on the tap handle.

When we asked for a beer menu we were handed a 5x10 piece of paper and told that it was out of date. Nice. The paper only listed the name of the beer and the brewery. True aficionados want to see stuff like OG, FG, IBU, ABV, SRM, hops used, grains used, description... etc. None of that to be found in a 50 mile radius.

The place was dead. It was us and two other parties on a Saturday night at 7:30PM. Not a big deal for our experience, but an indicator nonetheless.

We ordered food since we were on the road and hadn't had dinner. Honestly... no joke... a Big Mac would have been more pleasing to the eye and palate.

So, back to the beer. The selection was wide, but again, it was hard to make a selection without a proper menu. We tried to read the taps, but that was difficult given our distance from them and the lighting in the bar. One good thing was that she allowed us to sample about three brews in little cups before making a selection and pulling a pint. That was a plus. BUT, when she did pour the pint, her pour produced zero head. I wasn't watching, but saw the result after she handed the pint to us. I guess the cause could also be the keg/tap system/CO2 setting. Hard to tell after the fact.

The prices were also one of the positive points. One pint was $4. The horrible food - two sandwiches - cost $5 total.

Given that they offer such a wide selection, they aren't completely lost. But, I would not go out of my way to darken their bar again. I guess I would go back if I lived in Akron, but only because of the selection and price.

I haven't reviewed this before but have frequented this bar over many years. I felt that there has been enough of a change in the quality of taps to warrant a new review. The newest review on here is from a year ago and things have definitely improved. 69 Taps is now a legit beer bar in Akron. In this funky underground tavern, a nice collection of beers on tap has been pursued. It certainly has a college bar feel after 11pm. Before 11pm it is just a solid downtown bar that will have a beer style to please any palate. The bartenders are predominately female and are very knowledgeable of beer in addition to being capable of making massive amounts of mixed drinks and shots. There still is an overabundance of BMC handles but a nice strip of 6 Great Lakes handles all together has been added. They also carry local beers from Ohio Brewing and Thirsty Dog. The main thing that has changed in the last few months is the focus on having quality IPAs on tap. Before it was a rarity to have any IPAs. There are now 5 quality IPAs on tap: Avery IPA, Troegs Nugget Nectar, Lagunitas IPA, Ohio Brewing O'hoppy and Dogfish 90 minute. They have nice happy hour specials until 7pm with $2 and $3 drafts and until 9pm on Fridays. Along with some offerings from Goose Island and Sam Adams among a variety of other breweries, I can't imagine a better beer bar in the Akron area with quality service, availability of quality beers, good pricing structure to handle every budget.

So here I am in Akron and itching for a Belgian beer or two from a good selection. How can you go wrong with a place that's got 69 taps, right?

OK. It's Sunday night and you could shoot a cannon down the main street of AKron and not hit a soul. Didn't expect the same of a beer pub.

Walked down the stairs and the place was virtually empty. Two patron and a server doing shots at the end of the bar.

Don't know how long this place has been in business, but it's a safe bet they haven't invested any money in the pub since it opened. Looked pretty down in the mouth.

Server had to ask the two patrons about the beer selection, so knowledge about the product is no barrier to employment here.

Beer selection? Pretty good. Not much in the way of high gravity beers, but most styles represented. Had an Allagash White (good)and a Siberian Night (really good). Could have gone for a chocolate porter or a tripel style.

Will I go back? When it all comes down to it, it's about the beer, so probably.
