Bottled 4/27/15.
Pours a murky honey orange with a foamy tan head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Thin streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of candied citrus zest, grapefruit juice, and earthy hop aromas. Taste is much the same with candied citrus zest, grapefruit juice, earth, and herbal hop flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an average beer that is drinkable, but not a very well done example of the style to me.

Type: 22-oz. bottle
Glass: Firestone restaurant pint glass
From: BevMo! in Santa Barbara, Calif.
Price: N/A (someone else bought it)
Purchased: April 19, 2014
Consumed: April 28, 2014
Misc.: Born on tag on bottom of March 12, 2014; I originally rated this as a pale ale, but after reading the other reviews and checking their website, apparently this is an IPA
Poured a caramel, copper, mostly clear color with 1-to-2 fingers of khaki white head. Minimal lacing along the sides of the glass. Below average-to-minimal retention on the top.
Smelled Cascade hops, pine, citrus hops, floral notes, caramel, faint buttery notes, lemon, rye and honey wheat.
Tasted pretty close to the smell. Just a little more bitter and dry. Got honey malts, caramel, citrus notes, floral hops, Cascade hops and rye.
Light-to-medium body. Thin texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt, slightly bitter finish.
Well this would have been a pretty good pale ale. I don’t see how it is an IPA, but I adjusted my ratings accordingly.

A- dark orange, almost brown. Not what a west coast ipa should look like. They are definitely going for a British style here.
S- toast, roasted malt, bitter. No citrus or pine
T- like it smells. Not really an IPA at all. More of a light and bitter porter.
O- almost a drain pour unless you convince yourself that its not an ipa, but some wired new beer style like a cross between a porter, an esb and a Belgian ale. Or something.

On-tap at Island
Pours an orange/light amber color with a white head. Candied citrus peel, toasted bread, and some floral hop aromas. A very minimal pine note as well as some grass. The flavor is certainly sweet. Bread, toasted malt, and toffee are prominent. Candied orange peel, a little bit of peach, and some tropical fruit add to the sweetness. Minimal bitterness, a hint of grass, and that's about it.
