Type: 22-oz. bottle
Glass: 12-oz. clear tumbler glass
From: VONS in Montecito (Santa Barbara), Calif.
Price: $7.99 (w/ VONS card)
Purchased: May 26, 2016
Consumed: May 27, 2016
Misc.: Limited release 2016
Was kind of looking forward to this one. Had tried one from Island Brewing Company - IPA Island Pale Ale - before and did not like it, giving it a 3.33 (76/B-) on Beer Advocate. The “limited edition” and “brewery” got me on the bottle.
Poured a copper, caramel, clear color with 2-to-3 fingers of off-white, frothy head. Light bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Great lacing. Very good retention. (Sight - 4.00)
Smelled herbal hops, rye hops, Columbus, menthol, lemon drop, lemon sweetened iced tea, caramel, brown sugar, toasted grain, toffee and hints of molasses. (Smell - 4.25)
Taste wasn’t quite as good as the nose, but still decent. Earthy rye, toasted toffee, roasted caramel, brown sugar, herbal hops, Columbus, menthol, toasted grain, citrus zest, lemon, wood, Nugget, honey and hints of sticky, sugary molasses. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, slightly bitter finish. (Feel - 4.25)
This one really surprised me. Very good for the style. (Overall - 4.25)

I purchased a bottle of Big Island Barleywine for $7.99 USD in Carpinteria, CA/USA.
Look: Big Island Barleywine has almost no foam.
Smell: Big Island Barleywine has an ordinary aroma.
Taste: Big Island Barleywine has a slightly sweet taste mixed with flavours of grains.
Feel: Big Island has good amounts of alcohol and carbonation.
Big Island Barleywine is recommended for people who enjoy drinking barleywine.
