After sitting in the fridge for 2 years I finally put this 2011 "limited edition" in glass.
I guess it won Gold at the 2012 GABF for a reason....
I'm not a stout guy so I really have a poor base for a review.
Seems like there's some fruit, plum and some chocolate, sweet dry finish, light mouth feel w/ a pretty clean hop bitterness ..
A nice beer.

From a 22 ounce bottle which my cousin purchased at the brewery and split with me. Thanks! It is supposedly gassed with nitrogen as well. On to the beer:

This black bodied beer formed a low head on the pour, leaving barely a trace of lace as the bee is consumed. But it smells like dessert; it's not shy bringing cocoa and sweet fudge notes to the aroma, though it also brings a pinch of booze as well. This export stout meets the style by being sweet, slightly fruity, and bringing a bit of noticeable alcohol to its arsenal. If you don't like the taste of fudge, you may want to pour your glass out. Quite sweet overall. It's medium bodied, but in terms of carbonation is low.

This foreign/export stout is solid as it stands. A few tweaks could take it next level and attract some people away from those chic imperial stouts.

I usually do not like export stouts, but Starry Night is one of the better ones I have had. It is nothing too special but it is definitely not a bad stout.

A lot of reviews said it is sour...I think they just got infected bottles. Worth picking one up to try.

Found this one sitting on a shelf in a whole food in Santa Barbara

Vintage 2011

Look: Black in color with brown rings on the edges. 1/8 inch head and no retention with some spotty lacing

Smell: Roasted malt and a bit of charcoal

Taste: Roasted malt some coffee and chocolate. Pretty boring actually

Mouthfeel: Medium body mild carbonation

Overall: Not good

pours black with a small khaki head with minimal retention and no lacing

nose is one noted, raosted malts

roasted nuts up front that leads to a BURNT coffee at the end

medium bodied and highly carbonated

overall wasn't a fan the burnt coffee taste took a bit to get out of my mouth.

Thanks to DarthKostritzer for sharing this one at MrVonzipper's tasting!

Pours an opaque black with a khaki head that settles to an oily film. No lacing on this one. Smell is pretty one dimensional with some dark roasted malt and very slight cocoa and coffee. Taste is of burnt dark malt, burnt coffee, and bitter cocoa. There is a pretty assertive roasty bitterness on the palate after each sip. This beer has a light carbonation with an acidic mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty bad beer. Way too roasty and bitter without any balance.

Thanks to Solomon420 for this one. It's been hiding in the back of my fridge for some time now.

This beer pours a deep dark brown with ample bubbles clinging to the glass. The head is a sandy tan film that left a few spots of lace.

Smells of dry and watery prunes with a touch of cocoa and some green grape skins.

Yowza! Talk about a sour beer! I just had a Beatification prior to this, but this even comes across as sour. There's a strong bite of unsweetened cranberry that carries a touch of caramel and old coffee, but over all, the sourness dominates through and through.

Feels thin, but present with an active soda-like carbonation.

I'm not sure if this beer was intended to taste like this, but other reviewers had similar experiences.

A: Nice dark black with a good mocha head.

S: Light roasty aroma. Almost smells more like a porter than an export stout.

T: Definite sour flavor. Very overpowering. There is some roast in there but it is vastly overwhelmed by the sourness.

M: Medium bodied.

D: It's too sour to be very drinkable. The sourness doesn't seem to blend with the roast.

Poured a nice, deep deep brown almost black with a small dirty white head. Nose was roasted and dry and so was the taste. I thought the nose followed the taste. Very dry. much like an Irish Stout to me, Not to much going on here but the simpleness was pretty good. Perhaps some coffee and/or chocolate in there but so subtle hard to pick up on.

Nitrogen draft at brewery, consumed 02/18/08.

Beer is almost black with a fine tan head. Aroma is a little roasty. Despite nitro, mouthfeel is watery. Mineral water flavor is odd, like beer was brewed with Perrier. Mocha and chocolate fight with the minerals in a struggle for flavor dominance that leaves your palate the loser.

Nice looking stout with a medium tan head. You can smell the hops and sweet malts. However, the flavor is heavily of hops. It's very piney, almost too much. This has more hop flavor than I'm used to in my stouts. I prefer them to be more malty, chocolatey. But the finish is smooth and clean. I'd have another anytime!

22oz. bottle "Limited Release 2004"

Pours a dark black with an explosive head. Exploded all over my shirt. Way overcarbonated...

Aroma is of dark roasted malts with a slight sourness.

Immediate taste is very roasty and then is dominated by a very sour taste. I hope that this is due to the age of the beer.

Oily texture, overcarbonated.

I managed to drink just enough to properly write this review. The rest went down the drain.
