Quality is something DLM knows how to do. If they need to have the best olive oil, they talk to their Italian friends and fly to Italy. At the same time Norman & Calvin Mayne are very down to earth, good people. I'm still amazed Mr. Mayne knows all of his employees names by memory, with or without name tags. I expected nothing less when walking into their small but choice beer isle. Chimay, Delirium, and Orval for the Belgians. DFH, Stone, and Founders for the domestic crafts. The rest of their selection changes for seasonal beer but they don't have product that lingers and takes up valuable real estate. They do have a small section of macros but I would expect that being a grocery store. Fine foods, hold the snobby.

I am fairly impressed with how much they can pack into the limited amount of space they have available. The selection is mostly micro beers from around the world. Almost everything is cold and they're open 24 hours a day. It's a great place to get good beer when everyone else is closed. They carry Rogue, Stone, Great Lakes, Rochefort, and others. The staff are also friendly and helpful.

If you're looking for a good selection of cheese, this is the place to be. The carry a wide variety of cheese to go with your beer along with easy-to-heat prepared meals. The perfect stop when no one else is open and a good stop in general.

Dorothy Lane Market is an upscale grocery, with many specialties. This particular location is in Oakwood, about a block from an Arrow Wine location. Selection is nice, several from GLBC, Stone and Founder's. Also some good imports such as Celebrator, St. Bernardus, and Orval. Most of the selection is in a cooler, which is a plus. I find everyone here to be friendly and helpful. As a bonus, they have a great selection of cheeses to go with whatever brew you pick, and can suggest pairings if you aren't sure.

I was astounded when I came to this place. It had so many beers that I couldn't find up in Michigan. The beer coolers were stocked with quality beer and minimally filled with macros. There was an employee there who tried to help me and was there showing me the different beers and he was very friendly but his knowledge was all second hand (as he admitted). I wish there would have been more Stone and Victory offerings, like the Hop Devil and Arrogant Bastard. But I can't complain there was an awesome selection of excellent beers at this store and the prices were good.

Members of my family have long raved about the DLMs as one of their favorite spots for great food. I knew they probably had a great wine selection, but had not really thought much about the beer potential, especially since this location is within a block of Arrow Wine, one of Dayton's better beer outlets. Well was I surprised to find a premier selection of top beers. Just to name a few - Westvleteren, Unibroue, Rochefort, J.W. Lees, Fuller ESB, Celebrator, all of the GLBC including Moondog, Rogues, Stones, etc. This location allots less than 20% of its beer space to all of the macros, whether US or Canada. Most beer is in coolers. Only singles already broken out can be checked out. Quick checkout; little floor help.
