Very dark for a bock, almost black. Pretty fine head leaving beautiful lacing
Caramel in the nose
Caramel in taste and a little roast, a tad too ashy bitterness.
Just enough body and carbonation to keep it between refreshing and smooth.
Nice for a bock

Notes from blind Bock Bier Tasting project fall 2019

Deep ruby color, fine bubbles, foam is beige with coarse and fine bubbles, leaves lacing 4
the usual toffee, bread, sweetness not overly complex; a little roasty coffee retronasal 3.5
typical caramel and coffee malt profile but just a hint of sweetness, not much of a bitterness, a hint of metal 3.75
body is medium with appropriate tuned down fine carbonation 3.75
Very appropriate Dutch Bockbier that leaves out the sweetness and just delivers the typical malt profile, though not overly expressive or impressive 3.5

Beautiful dark red colour with a finger of foam that fades fast, leaving some lacing on the surface. The taste and smell are typical bock: caramel, malt, hop bitterness. Well balanced with the right level of bittersweetness, but it could have been more pronounced. This makes it quite a nice session drink on a terrace during an indian summer though.

I am not really a bockbeer lover but when i was at the brewery today i saw the bock standing there and decided to buy it.

Poured in my Struise glass the beer starts ok. Nothing special but nice to look at. Darkbrown fluid with a very decent head. No carbonation visible. Decent beer for a colder night but not a beer you mist try when in Holland...

Very dark brown in color, alsmost mahogany. Has a beige head that doesn't last long. Slight carbonation.

Smell: something grassy, chocolate cookies, apricots

Taste: dades, dried dark fruits, roasted nuts, and then a slightly bitter yeasty taste. It has that great almost-burned-but-not-quite-yet taste too it that a good bock should have. Later some coffee and fresh dark bread, but with some sweet and tart notes of fruits (dried apricots). Aftertaste is more fruits, with a nice bitter touch.

Mouth: medium. Very pleasant but not outspoken in any way. Medium alcohol, carbonation, everything. Very drinkable and fits the style well.

Overall: I really like this. Had it before in other years but was not overly impressed, but this time it really does it for me. It's still sweet, but not as much as I remember it from last year. Great balance and nice complexity. Great bock overall.

30cl Bottle: BBD Mar 2014, poured into an Augustijn chalice at home on 7th Jun 2013.

Deep, dark ruby red in colour with an off-white head that thinned out very quickly: although it did leave some sticky lacing on the chalice as the beer level sank.

Sweet and malty from the start, the nose has a fruity, alcoholic maltiness with a yeast undertone.

The taste is also malty sweet: I know the Dutch seem to brew sweet Bocks and this is no exception. Mild coffee notes take away any thoughts of over-sweetness but a chocolate feel to the flavour brings it back again.

Luckily I like sweet beers: this is a sweet toothed beer fans heaven.
