I found this beer on tap at Full Sail’s Riverplace Brewpub in Portland. According to the waitress, it was not a double or imperial IPA as the name might suggest, but a rotational variant of Full Sail’s regular IPA. This brew is similar in many respects to most of Full Sail’s mainline craft. It has good color, a glassy mouthfeel, and modest flavor.

Double Wrecked starts with a warm wooden color like bourbon and water. The fragrance is at first potent and floral – everything you’d want from a bright, hoppy IPA. But that fragrance soon fades, as does the carbonation and lace. In fact, an observant drinker would note a world of difference between a four-ounce sample and a full pint. A sample might reveal a brew with an abundant smell and good lace. But the pint draught – the true draught – lacks staying power.

The taste of this beer is quite enjoyable, though it strays from classic IPA lines. It’s fruity and the hop flavor is relatively obscure. This makes for a clean drinkable brew that bears little resemblance to an IPA. What saves it is its smooth, glossy mouthfeel and clean finish. But “Double Wrecked’s” modest character can’t offset its harshly self-depreciating name.

Draft, Falling Rock pre-Gabf tapping party.

Solid, punchey nose of pine, resin, grass. Quite fresh, intoxicating and definately dry hopped.

Sprucey, piney, Centennial hops bliss in a glass. Fresh, dry and incredibly hoppy, quite medicinal as well with malt notes of caramel and biscuits.
