OK, so this is NOT some crazy imperial IPA or barrel-aged stout. Can we just get that out of the way? It's an amber ale, people. Can't hate on it cuz it doesn't taste wild and ferocious!
APPEARANCE is prototypical American amber: body is a black tea/cola brown with light off-white head which is quite thick and pillowy and then subsides. Moderate lacing was noted. Check.
THE SMELL is of hops, chocolate malt, and nice touch of sweet raisin/prune. Surprisingly complex, but still within the simple confines of an amber. Check.
THE TASTE is also representative of a proper amber with its good balance between sweetness and hoppy bitterness, while being mild and smooth overall. The chocolate malt and raisin hit the palate first, ending in a bite of hops and smoky chocolate. Check.
THE FEEL is light to medium in body, but still standard for an amber. Thicker would be nice, but I think we'd start getting into winter warmer territory if we went that route. Check.
CONCLUSION: This is what you might call a session beer, for sure. However, just one is nice if you're in the mood for a good amber. It is quite different than other leaders in this style like New Belgium, but I think it may actually be more accurate. If you're expecting something spectacular you will be disappointed, but if you're expecting a proper amber you will get just that. Hey, and I don't even really dig this style!

Not much aroma. Pretty bitter ... Overhopped for my taste. Presents well with a nice amber color and nice head.
[I am copying these notes over from RateBeer ... it does not require as long of review. I tasted this some time ago so I can't add anything.]
