Style | ABV
American Amber / Red Ale |  5.50% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
"Our Amber is a sweet, malty, medium-bodied ale with a spicy, floral hop finish. It's brewed with 2-row Pale, Crystal and Chocolate malts. And we hop it with Mt. Hoods and Cascades. We're as proud of it today as we were back in '89. And over the years it's earned 14 Gold Medals. Not that we're keeping track or anything.

ABV 5.5% IBU 31"

Appearance: Solid red with a decent head and great lacing. A bit flat-looking though.

Smell: Nice roasted nuts. Heavier on the malty notes than the hoppy ones.

Taste/Mouthfeel: I wish I could say this tasted like roasted nuts, but really, they've been burned. I can especially taste this in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is also quite watery, which definitely doesn't help the flavor.

Overall Drinkability: If I had judged this book by its cover, I would have liked it a lot. However, the important parts don't hold water.

Picked up a bottle of this today at my local "Whole Paycheck (Foods)". I poured it into a pub glass. It had a very nice foamy head with some staying power. The appearance was dark colored. I could definitely taste the hops in this one. Full Sail Amber is an very good beer and Id love to have it again.

I remember Full Sail Amber being a classic example of American Amber Ale that I enjoyed several years ago and so I picked up a six pack for a refresher.

Appearance: crystal clear dark amber color with thin cream-colored head made up of tiny bubbles. Moderate carbonation and lacing.

Smell: Malt-forward and dark crystal-sweet

Taste: The same crystal-sweet quality hits first, and then is balanced by a relatively classic hop dryness. For a Northwest Ale, the hopping is not that bitter, but rather crisp and noble-like. I really like its balance.

Mouthfeel: Dry, soft, medium body that resonates of dark crystal malts without being cloying. A slight alcohol warmth for its 6% ABV kicks in about a third of the way through.

Overall: Still a classic after all these years – a fine early-autumn beer for a Northeasterner like me

Had this on 2014-06-09 in Columbia, PA

A - Pretty clear, dark amber with a 1-finger off-white head and mild lace.

S - Light-medium toasted bread, a bit sweet, light spice and floral. Mild.

T - Bread, citrus, touch of cherry, pepper. Has the right amount of caramel sweetness and decent balancing bitterness.

M - Medium+ body and light-medium carbonation. Substantial. Creamy. Very nice feel.

O - Reminds me a bit of the Deschutes Red Chair or a Hoppy Blonde from Columbia Kettle Works. I like that it has very nice flavor and feel at 5.5% ABV. I'll have this again.
