Poured this one--which I let sit for about 2 months--into a wide-mouthed wineglass last weekend...

The body is crystal clear with a brown color and a slight tinge of red. It is much more brown than most barleywines, and therefore pretty interesting looking. It has a bright, light mocha colored-head.

It smells like prunes, hops, yeast, and cotton candy. The smell is very pleasant and not offensive in the least bit. Very barleywine-ish.

The mouthfeel is creamy, but not malty. Pretty standard for this style I think.

The taste goes from sweet to immediately hoppy (Not very complex). In fact this barleywine is quite strongly hopped and tastes more like an imperial IPA in someways. It's good, just less sweet than most barleywines I've had. So, it doesn't seem quite accurate for this style.

The alcohol is hidden well and the beer is crisp and very drinkable. It almost has a green apple or champagne-like crispness to it. I think this really helps with the drinkability since you can definitely feel the alcohol pretty quickly with this one.

An enjoyable beer, for sure, but not the best barleywine I've had. I think Sierra Nevada's is better, as one example.

2011 vintage.
22oz : tulip

Pours a murky, burnt-orange, brown color with a thin, foamy off white head.

Aroma and taste are sweet, syrupy toffee, caramel malts.

Medium body, faint, foamy carbonation.

A decent beer when aged, but it just doesn't have a whole lot going on at the 2-year mark in my opinion and I've come to the conclusion that I prefer it fresh.

Runner up in a four way blind barley wine taste.

Pours a light tan.

Smell is a bit mild, more malty and a bit of fruit. Not very carbonated.

Spicy character. Mellow and almost sour hoppy.

Pretty good beer, especially for the price. Worth getting a few to age and for 3.99 a bottle, not a bad go to option.
