12oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Freshness date extends well into July.
A: Dark ruby red in color. Great clarity. One finger of off-white head retains well. Lacing forms thin, delicate rings on the glass.
S: Strong hop aroma of resiny pine, citrus zest, and freshly cut grass. Cherry juice and berry. Dessert-like malt scents of bread pudding, fruitcake, and hermit cookies.
T: Bread crust with a slight burnt edge. Toasted malts. Fruitcake. Gingersnaps. Strong hop bite with formidable bitterness. Pine, spicy and oily. Even some ruby red grapefruit flavors clamp down on the tongue. Cherry juice. Brown cocoa. Strong spicy and bitter finish lingers for a long time.
M: Modestly thick. Creamy and chewy. Mild seltzery carbonation.
O: A ton of hop character on top of a stodgy malt body. It comes on a bit strong, but as a winter beer it works. Not for the faint of heart, but it'll warm your cockles on a cold winter day.

From a bottle into a pint glass, small head quickly fades leaving good lacing and a thin cap which persists. Very dark brown with ruby/chestnut notes when held to light. Nose: Sweet and toasted malt, chocolate notes, actually very nice. Tastes of sugary and burnt malt, hints of coffee and chocolate. Mouth is nicely chewy, viscous, quenching, and smooth, very complementary to flavor profile. Overall: A pleasant surprise. I’m not usually a fan of Winter Ales but this one is quite tasty. As a bonus, one of my “non-beer” friends really liked this one, probably because of the sweet, chocolate flavor profile. Would definitely seek out again.

Appearance: Dark chestnut; medium, frothy beige head, medium lasting
Aroma: Malty; medium hoppy; dried fruits; molasses
Taste: Malty; peppery; well-balanced; starts off creamy and quickly goes to Belgium ale flavors of peppers, cloves, and dried fruit; finishes slightly bitter from roasted grains; excellent
Remarks: Did not score A, T, S, M at that time; disregard those scores
