"A deep mahogany color, Wassail is brewed with four different malts and a blend of Pacific Northwest hops, giving it a malty full body and a pleasantly hoppy finish that appeals to both hop and malt lovers alike. In other words, a Christmas miracle."

A- Dark brown, chestnut colored body with a foamy cream-colored head.

S- Malty, lots of roastiness, some sweetness, hints of roasted nuts.

T- Pretty similar to the aroma, some roastiness, some nuttiness, hints of caramel.

M- Medium-full bodied, lingering aftertaste and some stickiness left behind. Medium carbonation as well.

O- Pretty decent malty winter beer. Pretty good flavors come through.

Glass: Pint glass

Consumed: Dec. 23, 2013
Misc.: Enjoy by May 13, 2014

Poured a mahogany clear color with 1-to-2 fingers of tan head. Minimal lacing on the sides of the glass. Below average retention.

Smelled caramel, toffee, roasty nuts, molasses and toast.

Tasted like a better version of the smell. Roasted nutes, caramel, toffee, biscuit and light chocolate.

Medium body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Soft carbonation. Long, bitter finish.

It was a very nice winter beer. I’d have it again.

Appearance: dark garnet with crimson highlights, great clarity, and a thick tan rocky head

Aroma: nutty, like roasted chestnuts, and a little plum fruitiness, with a spicy cinnamon and cardamom kick

Taste: tastes just like it smells, with a smooth and long finish.

Mouthfeel: a little creamy, with a solid thickness to it that is similar to an imperial stout of terms of body and viscosity. Medium-low carbonation

Overall: This is a fantastic go-to choice for a winter warmer. Great nuttiness, fruitcake like fruitiness, and a spicy warmth to it couple with a great thick body and smooth finish make this an outstanding choice.

Poured a rich dark red with a thin white head and thin lacing. Smells of dark fruit and chocolate. Tastes as it smells with a wonderful warming from the alcohol. The hops and alcohol balance out the strong malt backbone to create a very balanced and very delicious ale. Definitely one of the best winter warmers available, especially for the price.

App: Heavy, dark brown color with minimal head and no lacing. Half serving pour. Slight copper hue when held directly to the light, but overall mostly opaque.

Smell: Medium malty aromas with slight breadiness. Comb in honey nose with slight herbaceous spiciness. Touch of volatility high in the nose.

Taste: Bitter and medicinal in the foretaste, opening up to significant hops bitterness. Slightly spiced and solvent like. Not unpleasant. Hints at roasted malt flavors without acknowledging them fully. Not a bad beer by any means but a little bizarre. A lot like an ESB without the assertive sweetness. Wassail is traditionally mulled, so I don't think its true to style, but not a bad holiday beer.

Mouth: Decent body, maybe a little on the thin side, medium carb.

Bottle stamped 02/28/14 69 at reefer temp into goblet.
Head virtually non-existant, off-white, completely diminishing
Lacing - virtually none.
Body reddish-brown, hazy (chill haze?)
Begins slightly bitter with something close to black cherry/date flavor and ends with the date predominating. No diacetyl, no hops, no alcohol after taste.
Medium to full body with a creamy texture.
Carbonation lively, quickly softening.

Overall, a winter warmer I can appreciate; not overspiced and not so sweet you have to chase it with insulin. Delightfully chewy. Drives, IMHO, Mad Elf back into the underbrush.

Translucent bronze-red with a regal head of taupe. Laces decently, too.

Smells like a malty red ale. Caramelized grains, dark fruits, baked earth, hints of cranberry and plum. Maybe a little vanilla.

Much drier than the nose. Metallic malts, some hop bitterness, light twanginess, some toastiness, and earthiness. Wet/bitter graininess. Slight hint of dark fruits.

Medium body with some booziness and a hefty carbonation.

Not a bad warmer. I like the lack of big spice flavors.

Poured into a 13 oz tulip glass, best by 2/28/13. Pours a beautiful ruby red with a one inch off white head that leaves behind some attractive lace. Smell is caramel, biscuit, some pine, tangerine, brown sugar, and a hint of nutmeg. Taste surprises with a hit of chocolate and some grapefruit up front and the other flavors blend in through out. Body is medium, plenty of life, not dry, and very drinkable. This is really good and different another beer I will be drinking during the holiday season.
