Kept this bottle since spring of 2013 which was when purchased. This was one that kept staring at me in my beer cellar; or fridge as it were next to my clown shoes and Yetis. Poured with little head, but not expected from a stout like this. Poured black with little bubbles on the top off into a imperial pint glass. Fair lacing, sticky. Smelled like a boozey beer with good malt character. Taste great. I think Full Sail did great here. Heavy up front malt with hop character but not over powering either. Taste like sweet then bitter. Good balance but could be better. This was a good treat. Would buy again and would reccomend to other stout fans. Not bad for a cold night here in Texas. This is a sipper and deserves respect when consuming. Not a real heavy hitter as I expected, only 7.2%. Taste like it has more Abv. Cheers!

Full Sail Imperial Stout is a very dark brew with a nose that offers roasted notes, molasses, some wood, and chocolate. The beige head of foam isn’t as big and bold as I expected, but it passes.

Moving to the taste, this beer offers flavors of bittersweet chocolate, a little bit of bourbon, roasted malt, molasses, and dark fruit. There are some iced coffee notes and the beer offers a lingering bitterness, but it isn’t as bitter as some of the bigger, bolder imperial stouts out there.

This is an interesting beer for several reasons, one of which is the fact that it has a bourbon/wood flavor component, but isn’t, as far as I know, aged in barrels. Based on the flavor, I would have guessed it was but every source I check says otherwise. Another way this beer stands out from others is that it is far less imperial than the average imperial stout. The body is less heavy than others, but I wouldn’t go so far as to call it watery. It isn’t a light beer by any stretch, it just isn’t as heavy as other imperial stouts.

Overall, this is another solid effort from Full Sail. It may not rank among the best imperial stouts I have ever tried, but it does have enough good qualities to make it recommendable.

22oz bottle poured into a snifter. 2013 release, 9.6% abv.

A: Deep, dark black. O e finger of beige head fades very quickly. Minimal lacing, just a few diminutive spots.

S: Big whiff of bourbon and barrel, along with a thick, chewy fudge aroma. Brown caramel, molasses, brown sugar, thick fudge and fudge sauce, brownie batter. Baker Apple, booze soaked figs, chocolate covered raisins. A shade of green hops in the background. Seasoned oak.

T: Thick, chewy caramel. Fudge, chocolate sauce, chocolate truffles. Bourbon owns the mid-palate. Seasoned and toasted oak. Warm vanilla. Baked apple. Strong bourbon, caramel, and fudge on the finish.

M: Thick, viscous, and chewy. Very weighty. Low carbonation. Huge body.

O: A huge, rib-sticking beer. It's a sipper for sure. Drink this one when you're not in the mood to mess around. Nothing subtle here, it's a straightforward imperial stout with a gargantuan body and a strong bourbon barrel character. Just the sort of beer that happens to tickle my fancy.

I poured this from a chilled bottle into a pint glass.

A: The color is dark and rich, with a thin head that dissipates with no lacing.

S: The smell is filled with molasses, cocoa and oak (although it is not barrel aged).

T: Here's where things start to fall apart. The taste was odd, anything that was contained in the aroma was overshadowed by a flavor I can't really identify. I sipped it several times as it warmed to nearly room temperature and nothing improved.

M: Medium - light syrup feel (not taste)

O: I wish I could identify the root cause of the failure here, but it was like several strong flavors combined in a way that was off-putting. I've had hundreds of beers and many from the top 250. This is my only drain pour to date.
