On tap at Front Door-Boise. pale golden, light and citrusy, not as malty as most heller bocks. Easy drinker, lots of citrus in nose and flavor, but still tons of maltiness as expected for the style.

This is a golden colored beer with a thin, almost nonexistent white head. It has a slightly skunky, pilsener like smell. The taste is also fairly pilsener like, but with more body than the standard pilsener. It has a bitter initial taste with a malty biscuit finish. It has an exceptionally dry finish. Not really a lot going on here. I don’t know that I’ve ever had a “pale bock” before, but if this is representative I’d take a dopplebock or even a standard bock over this any day. It is fairly crisp and drinkable and I definitely like it better then mass produced pilseners, but that’s about all I can say good about it.

When I hear the word bock, my expectations are very high. There was nothing too exciting about this brew, however it goes down really smooth for 7% ABV.

Poured from a bottle into a regular pint glass.
Appearance: Golden straw color with half a finger of head. Almost no carbonation with little foam coating the glass.
Smell: Strawlike with hints of honey, citrus, and malt. Most likely the beers low point.
Taste: Taste is very smooth and very sweet. Mostly honey, citrus, and a little malt flavor. Taste some fruitiness. Refreshing. Not overwhelming, but somewhat weak.
Mouthfeel: The beer's strongest point. It is extremely drinkable and is a beer that fits the role of a summer beer. Recommend strongly with fish.
Overall: This beer is nothing outstanding but is a worthy one to try, especially in the summer on the hot day. Pairs extremely well with fried fish.
