A new holiday beer for our Limited Edition Lager series. LTD 06 is a black bock that is lush and full bodied with hints of roast, coffee, and chocolate in the aroma followed by flavors of caramel and figs with a long creamy smooth finish. LTD 06 is brewed as a Czech style Cerné Speciální with 2 row Pale, Munich, Caramel, and Chocolate Malts and hopped with Santiam and Perle hops.

1st review.... Going to say right up front, that I did not know what style this brew actually is. Euro Dark Lager didn't look right... Munich Dunkel (too dark) was not quite as wrong... Could easily be a Schwarzbier (abv is too high).. I went with Doppelbock.. Moderators, please feel free to change it, though I would like a reason why just for future reference and my own education.
Picked up a couple of these tonight at the COOP for about $1.50... damn fair.. poured into my slim tulip... the brew is clear, but nearly black... polished walnut only shows with a decent light behind the glass... A little dark compared to most doppelbocks, but not outside of style guidelines, but pushing it for sure... Dark brown head doesn't stick around at all.
Great roast malt nose.. pretty clean.. interesting mix of toast, light caramel and some chocolate malt notes... nicely balanced sweetness helps accentuate the dark malts.. smells great.
Flavor pretty much mirrors the nose spot-on.. roasty notes come out as light espresso beans without the astringency... chocolate malt almost seems like "milk chocolate malt" with the moderate residual maltiness..
For the lower lager ABV, I was expecting a lesser body, but this one is a slightly lighter side of medium.. light/medium carbonation for the style helps the viscosity and the drinkability IMO.
I appreciate good lagers... especially dark ones. Full Sail more than exceeded my expectations... I will DEFINITELY be buying this one again as long it is in my reach.
Very cool... this one is in my wheelhouse.
3.5/4/4/4/4.5

[Original rating 2013-09-28] Pours clear reddish brown with a tiny bit of brown head. Aroma is caramel, earth, smoke. Taste is roasted malt, chocolate, tobacco, a hint of alcohol. Mouth feel is a bit thin given the big taste. Not my favorite style but I wouldn’t turn down another one.

Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a thin tan head. There is nothing subtle about the chocolate and coffee flavors in this lager, although it isn’t too overwhelming either. Besides those two flavors there isn’t much else going on here though. Despite its dark color this beer is actually kind of thin and watery. Chocolate and coffee are two flavors that I definitely appreciate in a beer, but the rest of this beer doesn’t seem to be fully developed. Maybe I’m being a bit harsh with this beer because with the dark color I was expecting something else. It does have the body of a light lager, but that just isn’t what I’m looking for when a beer is this dark and has chocolate and coffee as the main flavors. It doesn’t taste bad, but it is definitely a little bit disappointing that this is all they could do with two flavors that I really love in beer.

12 oz bottle served fairly cold.
A lightly sweet Dunkle Bock that leans strongly towards a Schwarzbier but with exceptional notes of chocolate and coffee. There are also some nice roasted nut notes in the aroma. While the flavor leans towards a 7, the aroma is s solid 8.
O recommended.

Pours dark chestnut brown with a medium tan creamy head. Aroma is sweet caramel malt, notes of plum, roasty malt, mild cacao and espresso like bitterness. Taste the same as aroma. Palate is a medium body, rich and creamy with good carbonation and slightly sticky mouth feel. The finish is sweet sticky caramel malt, dark fruit, a nice chocolate and roasted espresso bitterness in the end for balance. A very rich and full flavored brew. Overall a good flavorful and tasty brew for the holidays
