I was a little afraid to review this beer, mostly because I am running out of adjectives to describe the huge number of IPAs on the market. How many times can you say citrusy, piney, bitter, aggressive, etc. without being redundant?
But those are some of the hallmark characteristics of this style - the benchmarks if you will by which the style is measured.
If I were new to the style and liked this particular offering, I would likely score it higher. However, as an avid hophead, I struggled to give it solid "3s," as the label promised something "ridiculously tasty" and really, it's just average.
However, to be fair, when judging just this composition alone, it's a solid average IPA. Nice amber color with a creamy head, mild citrus notes with a bit of yeastiness and spice, all of which translates to the taste, sans the hoppy bite. Mouthfeel is a bit bland - something just short of smooth that a bit more carbonation would help.
Still, I bought it to share at a block party among folks who know my advocacy for good beer, but where the range of beer tastes is unknown. Good for folks who may not have forayed into IPAs much, or for those who find them a bit too harsh. All in all the beer is drinkable.
