Bomber to a snifter, no dates

Pours a cloudy golden orange with a finger of foam. Mild carbonation from the sides, good lacing, okay retention

Smells of fruity hops- tropical fruits, citrus, and a bit of pine. Behind that is a sweet caramel malt and a splash of alcohol

Taste is with the nose, tropical fruit and citrus for the hop profile followed by a ridgid caramel and bready malt backbone. Finishes with a little bit of alcohol

Feel is a medium body with a wet finish. Alcohol's present but it's still pretty drinkable, medium bitterness

Overall it's okay. I don't think I'd get it again at the price though

Appearance – This is a light orange in color and very clear with a moderate head.

Smell – The hoppy pine resin is abundant here with no malt to speak of.

Taste – The malts are absent at the taste as well and the hop flavor, while huge, is one-dimensional pine.

Mouthfeel – This is way too light for a DIPA, maybe medium-bodied at best, but has some incredibly satisfying dryness.

Drinkability – This really is like hop juice. It’s thin, almost like water, but extremely hoppy. It is not a true double though.

Deep copper to amber color with hops and sugar in the nose with hints of dark cherry. Definitely more hops than the IPA. The alcohol lurks, but remains stealthy. Flavor is malty and rich. This is a dessert beer that skirts the barleywine style. The hops win out in the flavor with Chinook and other high alpha acid hops presenting that deep hop character that is so lovable. The malt puts up a very good fight in the flavor. This is definitely not a dry beer by any stretch. Bitterness plays nice and doesn't dominate. I'm sure there is plenty of bitterness, but the balance makes it all work out. 10 ounces is not enough. I considered bribing the bartender for a full pint.

I'm a big fan of the Rubicon Brewing Company and this beer didn't disappoint. I knew this was going to be something special as I started to pour it into my pint glass. A very beautiful orange/rust color, thick head and lots of hop scents including grapefruit and other citrus notes. The taste is all you want from a big IPA --- huge hops, full bodied and lots of interesting characteristics. This is a very dry beer and you’ll want to drink more and more to quench your thirst. It’s a good problem and beer!

Bottle

Acquired via Uncle Larry!

A dark, caramel amber with not a lot of head and not a lot of carbonation. Little lacing. Unimpressive.

An impressively hoppy aroma. Some citrus aromas, some biting alcohol, and caramel malt. Not particularly interesting and relatively one-note, but certainly hoppy.

The taste actually follows the nose almost exactly. Some citrus, a lot of caramel malt, a lot of hop bitterness, and just a hint of alcohol warmth.

Not quite enough carbonation, and I think with more, it would greatly improve this beer. As is, there's not enough carbonation to properly cope with the harshness from the alcohol. Not incredibly drinkable, though this beer actually is tasty.

A tasty DIPA brought down by it's mouthfeel and its lack of appropriate carbonation.

On tap at the 11th DIPA festival. Back then it was only 8.2% abv and clocking in at 80 IBU.

Great appearance, massive clarity coming out of a glowing yellow and tangerine orange colored beer with a thin egg shell white head to it. Big deep piney aroma, complimented with an almost equally deep orange citrus component. Hits all the points aroma wise.

Lots of sweet caramel in the taste, of course, the hopping is through the roof and allows for a hop resin chewiness to be its predominant quality versus just a bunch of bitterness.

Pretty amazing on tap. Cut through a lot of lesser dipas that day. Just gotta be careful of this one getting too sweet, as that is its only negative characteristic, one that is likely to get even more difficult to swallow as the beer ages. But fresh, it hides the alcohol, and the sweetness to a lesser degree, very well.

Poured a clear gold with a thin white head that receded to a thin ring leaving some lacing down the glass. Standard for a DIPA. Scents of citrus peel, tropical fruit, mango, pine resin and caramel malt. As it warms some earthy and funky aromas come out alongside some overripe fruit. Not the most complex aroma amongst West Coast DIPAs, but good and true to form. Flavor begins with strong pine resin bitterness that remains present throughout the sip and aftertaste. Prominent flavors of citrus peel, citrus pith, some fruit flavors, spicy hops, some earthy hops and a hint of caramel malt in the background, though rather subdued. A very hop forward beer. Alcohol is detectable in the background. A rather dry finish. A little sweeter as it warms, though not much. Mouthfeel is medium-light bodied with low carbonation and a semi-drying mouthfeel. Not as heavy bodied and stick as most DIPAs, a little watery and light, but quite drinkable. The mouthfeel allows the hops to be the center of the beer. Overall this is a good DIPA due to its hop-forward nature. Its not as balanced or complex as other West Coast DIPAs, without the usual sticky and sweet malt flavors and feels. But if you like hops, this is a good beer, as the hops are the star of the beer.

Pours a finger of head on a clear, dark straw colored body.
The aroma is a wonderful mixture of orange, mango and grapefruit.
The taste has moderate to strong pine bitterness throughout with peeks of pineapple sweetness to balance it out.
The texture has soft edges with moderate carbonation.
It's loaded with bitterness at around 100 IBUs but still retains great flavor.

Poured into my Dales Pale Ale shaker from a 22oz bottle. Clean amber color, completely filtered. A Finger of creamy off-white head. Nose of citrus hops, some sort of medicinal artificial smell and an overpowering booze scent for 8.2%. A little bit of citrus and a big pow of pine and booze on the mouth. Very very bitter. Overly so with no malt backbone. Way too boozy. Mouthfeel is creamy, not bad. Not impressed.

Amber orange color in the glass with wispy white head. Carbonation is mellow, bubbles stick around the glass and leave a decent lacing. Aromas of sappy pine, syrup, and hops. Flavor is boozy, rich and hoppy. Slick sweet mouthfeel with a big bittering finish. Nice balance and hop intensity, very piney. Solid brew overall, need more hops on the east coast.

Pours a hazy amber color with a tight, white head that leaves little chunks of lacing.

Smells of pine hops with some earthiness.

Tastes of spicy hops with a solid malt base. Hops charge in with notes of pine and some citrus and solid earthy spice throughout. Comes through quite bitter. Some fruitiness comes on the end and adds a little depth along with some caramel sweetness. Not sweet enough to balance the hops though, but I like it like that. Finishes quite dry.

Mouthfeel is medium with a slightly assertive amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is an above average DIPA, but I feel like at 8%, they could tweak the recipe a little and have an outstanding single IPA.
