On tap at the Rube.
A - Pours dark mahogany with 2 fingers of off-white head. Dissipates slow and leaves little lacing.
S/T - Light coffee, chocolate, grassy hops, and light bittering hops.
M - Moderate-full bodied, well-balanced, sweet, and yet finishes dry. There are also notes of light alcohol.
D - Pretty good overall. Could sit and drink several more.

Visited Rubicon brewery while on a business trip to Sacramento, I reside in SF, and was delighted to find a tasty oatmeal stout.
I was really impressed with the minimal head on this Oatmeal stout, it wasn't overly carbonated like other oatmeal stouts I've had.
The initial taste was bold and thick but it finished really smooth. I felt like there was a chocolate pressence but not overwhelmingly so.
I'm not a big beer reviewer, just a big beer drinker. If your in Sacramento check this spot out and the happy hour was great!!

On nitro at Beachwood BBQ, the only place in the Southland which carries Rubicon beers on draught regularly. On to the beer:
Served in an imperial pint, this beer is black (welll, duh!), with semi-creamy head on top, leaving some good sticky lacing on the glass. Aroma starts off roasted with coffee, but it then turns into a hopfest. Taste is sweeter than the aroma...at least for the first seconds the beer is on your palate. Semi-sweet chocolate and big roasted malt flavors at the front of it all. The chocoalte dissapears, the roasted flavors weaken, and out comes a bouquet of bittering hops. Medium bodied, albet not as "full" as I was expecting from the style.
Where's my oatmeal? That aside, it's an acceptable, hoppy stout, and worth a go.

On nitro-tap at Beachwood BBQ,
A: Pours black with a two finger tan head. Great lacing and retention as to be expected on nitro.
S: Interesting coffee play here along with roasted malt.
T: Dark roasted malt and dark chocolate. A good stout flavour, but nothing particularly sweet about it. I like it, but I would not be able to recognize it as an oatmeal stout.
M: Creamy, thick for nitro, medium-bodied.
D: This is a real easy beer to drink and a pint I liked a lot out of Rubicon. Don't expect an oatmeal stout ala Young's but do expect a quality ale.
