Appearance: Pale yellow. Good foam retention for this style. Nice active carbonation. Flattens out quickly.

Smell: Lots of dry grass and strong barley malts.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Fortunately, there is a dry, crisp mouthfeel. I also like the taste a bit. It's not like grass, but actually more like hay. Pretty dry. Unfortunately, the metal taste consumes everything with this beer.

Drinkability: The metallic taste detracts from drinkability.

Overall: Might be an ok beer without the metal.

Brilliantly clear, minimal head. Slightly grainy aroma, and flavor is grainy and minerally. Body is moderate, with fairly high carbonation.

Easy drinking beer, clean, with a cracker grain backbone and light floral hops. The mineral character is unique and somewhat mouthwatering.

16.9 oz can into a pint glass.

A: Pours a clear golden color. A finger's worth of white colored head caps this off, fading to a thin film relatively quick.

S: You won't believe this, but it actually smells like a Euro pale lager! Some malty sweetness, diacetyl, and a twinge of noble hops comprise the aroma. Really uninspired, but better that than be riddled with horrid off notes.

T: It tastes exactly how I expected: sweet malts, some diacetyl, and something trying to resemble noble hops on the finish. There just isn't much to talk about here.

M: Plain and simple, the finish isn't dry enough. It's also too 'heavy', so to speak. For that reason, drinking it is kind of a chore. At least the carbonation isn't incredibly powerful - no, wait, I think I'd prefer it to be rather fizzy.

O: This is so damn dull, it's unbelievable. It's not even dull in the right way - instead of drinking like carbonated water, it's like drinking carbonated water that's obstructively sweet. It'll get finished unlike two others I drank earlier. I'm now officially sick of macro lagers for a few days - I need a proper IPA right about now.

Smaller sized white head dissipates quickly but with decent lacing. Light golden copperish colored body. Weak carbonation.

Smoky, sweet malts. Euro lager style yeast aroma. Hops are not detectable in the aroma. Pleasant.

Taste follows the nose. Smoky sweet malt followed by euro lager style yeast flavor. This beer is dry. The hop bitterness is surprisingly strong in the finish. No floral character to the hops whatsoever. It is a purely dry bitterness here from the hops. Malts, yeast, and dry bitter hops. Simple. Well balanced. A good lager beer. This would be a terrible ale. But it is a good lager beer. Learn to appreciate lagers. They have their own positive qualities: drinkability, refreshment, thirst quenchability, etc. This is a good workhorse lager.

Medium bodied. They did not skimp on the malt or the hops. Well done.

A six pack of tallboy cans goes for $5.99 at the local Trader Joe's. Brewed according to German purity laws. Oranjeboom is a good value for an all malt lager. It is enjoyable when camping, fishing, or out in the hot sun. Good if you want to throw back a few while watching the game. Orangeboom is malty and dry. It is an economy version of the Euro lager. But its pretty damn good for the price.

16.9oz can purchased at Trader Joe’s in Spokane for $1.25. On the bottom of the can was a best by date of 11/10/14. Close attention to the label of the can reveals this “Dutch Lager” was contract brewed in Braunschweig, Germany by “Hofbrauhaus Wolters GMBH.” Although the Reinheitsgebot does not apply to the Netherlands (or, in this day and age, Germany), there’s boilerplate regarding how the beer was brewed using only water, hops and barley, but there’s no mention of yeast! Hopefully, that was an oversight and this is not a yeastless beer.

Poured into a glass, this beer was a color not unlike that of apple juice. There was a thin white head that soon receded to a foam collar but never entirely disappeared.

The nose was malty, with a tiny whiff of grassy hops. Although skunkiness was absent, it was otherwise a dead ringer for many an uninspiring Eurolager.

Not much flavor to be had here. The beer is vaguely crisp, with a clean finish. Just a little malty sweetness and a very mild tinge of hop flavor.

Watery, clean finishing mouthfeel. Carbonation seemed a little low.

This beer is a cheap, inoffensive but otherwise unnoteworthy beer. I can’t conceive why I would be drawn to try it again.
