Stopped in at the brew haus the other day to get my growlers filled, chose this brew since it was a new stout on their menu that i had yet to try. Poured from a growler into an imperial pint glass.
A- This brew poured pitch black with a fingers worth of cinnamon/ mocha colored head that faded to a thin ring and left no lacing.
S- Heavy on the roasted malts almost smells burnt, lots of coffee and bitter chocolates in the background.
T- Pretty much a more intense version of the smell. Roasted/Burnt malts assault the taste buds. Hints of bitter dark chocolate and coffee come out in the end. A nice robust stout.
M- Medium bodied, creamy, and just right.
D- This is a very drinkable stout. Even though the flavors are quite robust they are blended and balanced so nicely that i want to keep drinking more.
Overall i enjoyed this stout, it was just the right beer for a cool October night in Michigan and i am glad i have a whole growler to myself. I have yet to be let down with any beers from black forest and i am greatfull to live close to a brew pub that produces many top notch beers. Keep up the good work guys.

Reviewed on 6/30/2010. On tap at the brewpub. Pours black with a dark tan head. Aroma of roasted sweet malt and bitter chocolate. Flavor of roasted, smoked malt and some charred notes. A hint of chocolate, but this one is mostly about the smoked/charred notes. Very tasty!
