A- Interesting flip top....not sure if the red liner was supposed to stay in or not, but alas, I was able to pour the brew out of a smaller opening. Comes out a creamy brown color that resembles the same look that root beer has once the ice cream melts into the liquid. The head starts out with about a medium fullness, that is off white and settles rather quickly into a layered patchwork over the brew. Decent sticky lacing clings to the side of my glass.

S- Whoa this has dominant aromas of dried fruit, and in particular, dried prunes! There are underlying tones of warm blackstrap molasses and toffee as well as caramelized bananas fried in a dark rum reduction. The sweet toffee/malt richness is balanced ever so slightly by a faint roasted/bitter hop finish.

T- To me, this starts out a little funky...being primarily of not quite ripe berries and I do detect a slight tart pineapple flavor in there as well....interesting. The balancing sweetness is of roasted malts and chocolate and maybe just a hint of coffee?! I like the flavors of this beer as it is just so different!

M- This is a smooth, yet refreshing medium bodied beer. The carbonation is kept fine and unpronounced. It is clean on the finish for the most part, leaving only a small chocolaty coating on the back of my palate.

D- I enjoy this brew and think it might go well with a rich meat-centric meal...on it's own, one, maybe two would suffice. It's sweet, slightly tart and robust all at the same time. I definitely recommend giving this one a try and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Pours a hazy brown/orange with a thin head,I get a slight toffee note in the aroma along with a little orange.Taste is definently malt tilted some toffee and bready malt with that light orangy note,pretty appetizing flavors going on.A nice beer malty and fruity could handle drinking a few of these.

A semi-cloudy pour that is an amber colour with a tinge of pink to it. An interesting nose that is both tart and lighty fruity with a lemon twist and grassy notes. The taste seems very fresh...fruity in a watermelon sort of way and citrusy. Moderately hopped and the bitterness counter-balances the fruitiness quite nicely. A smooth and lively mouthfeel with nice staying power. Good drinkability. An above average brew.

Appearance: Dark brown with a thick film of very clingy and sticky off white foam. Smell: Light sour, kettle sugars, citric hops. Taste: Starts malty with dark sugars and finishes with a bitter hop accent and a touch of taertness. Mouthfeel: A little above medium carbonation and body.

A very nice dark lager, nice hoppiness and nice and dry with a hint of berry fruit in there, i'd love to try the blonde.

Poured this Christoffel Robertus into the glass supplied in the gift pack. It poured a ruddy brown with a thin off white head that quickly dissipated. Carbonation is somewhat lackluster (possibly an old bottle).

Smell of dried fruits, raisins and apricots. The taste is malty sweetness with dark dried fruits. Slightly sour aftertaste.

I can see this pairing nicely with a stilton.

Mud brown with a thick carpet of beige.
Fragrant of black cherries, pumpernickel loaf, spearmint, and malted milk.
Enters the mouth with a big, round, doughy, dark breadiness. Rye-ish, or pumpernickel. Migrates towards chocolate but never quite gets there. We'll call it carob then. Fruitiness surges with gobs of seedy raspberries, blueberries, and earthy, pitty cherries. Hops burst through on the final lap, towing stately amounts of mint and rosemary.
It's very raw seeming with its zwickel yeastiness. I really like alot of what's presented here, but it just doesn't quite click on the whole. Almost, but not quite.
Still nice, and well worth a run.

Reddish brown, Ok all the way. One of the best Viennas I have tried, not too malty. Spiciness and fruit in the yeast, peach, cinammon, berries. Medium mouthfeel. Touch of roast. Pinch of candy sugar and Good finish and aftertaste. A better than average brew.

my bottle has just got home from a hour long walk across the city so is a little shaken and consequently a cloudy woody colour. Initial tastes are quickly followed by the warming glow of 6% alchol imperticbly going down. In taste it is a little hard to describe, complex sweetish flavours followed by a lingering and interestingly different hoppy aftertaste.

330ml flip top bottle. Pours a dark cloudy brown with a small quickly fading tan head. Aroma and Taste of dark caramel malt, barley, Belgium yeast, bready, has some raisin and dark dried fruit esters and flavor, some tartness. Palate is a medium body, with mild carbonation lithe some sweet malt and yeast on the tongue. Finish is sweet caramel malt, yeasty and bready with some dried dark fruit and mild bitterness. Overall a good drinking brew.

Aoma holds sweet malts that invoke raisin and fruit cake. Opaque dark amber in color with a quickly dimishing light tan head. Fore is malty sweet with dark fruit notes, mild caramel and a light not quite tartness that puncuates the malt nicely. Smooth and subtle.

2L Bottle shared with family (really fresh bottle): Poured a deep clear brown color beer with a nice nig foamy head with excellent retention and some good lacing. Aroma of caramel malt with some sweet ester is very interesting. Taste is very smooth with some creamy notes with some sweet caramel malt notes. Body is full with a huge malt backbone and some great carbonation. I have to admit to being really surprised about that one.

Wow...this beer is a Vienna Lager..??? I actually thought it was a dunkel..didn't have a clue as the label just said "double malted" (which made me initially think that it was a dubbel). Love opening these bottles, the swing tops go pop. The beer was poured into my new St Bernardus glass - the beer fell right uptil where it says 33cl - a dark ruby brown with lighter peripherals. The head was pinkish brown, finally settling to a negligible sheet over the cherry kissed body.
The smell was dominated by malt & gave away notes of cherries and plums. This is when I though this was not a Belgian Styled beer. Not much yeasty spiciness, no funk..aha this was a dark bottom fermented beer. I was also wondering earlier where the yeast was ?? I went ahead with the sip - very fresh and damn malty, sweet. The syrupiness and the cough syrup character somewhat reminded me of Samichlaus, but this had a roasted malt accent to it. I would have loved it had the roasted character lead to some bitterness, but it fell a little short of perfection with no hop presence whatsoever. The sweetness lingered on and on, but each time you had a sip the robust maltiness started the cycle over again. No lacing at all.
The mouthfeel was syrupy, below average carbonation. This probably accentuated the sweetness. This was indeed a malt heavy beer. I can have this beer anytime, but probably wont go beyond one, as this tends to satiate your appetite for beer more rapidly than any other beer I've known so far.

25 cl flip top bottle purchased at Hi Time Wine in Costa Mesa, CA. in May 2008 for $4.39.

Pours a brownish-tan with reddish highlights and decent but thin off-white head. Nice enough looking.

Aroma of sweet malts, lightly kissed with cherry and dark fruits, and an ever so light Flemish Red-style sour. Flavor plays on this, and there is a gentle sweet-sour counterplay, fruity and woody that I quite like. May not be typical for the style, but I like it.

Mouth includes a lot of carbonation, and the sour part actually starts to wear on the tongue towards the end of the glass, almost turning harsh.

Good, I could drink this and be happy, but not a favorite.

Whoa, watch out, this bottle is set to blow! Couldn't stop the suds from coming out of the top of the bottle.
Pours out a nice dark ice tea color with all kinds of creamy off-white head that quickly dissapates leaving some lacing on the glass.
Smell is hoppy and yeasty with a sweet caramel candy aroma.
Taste is a little weak. Starts out dirty with some hoppiness then quickly loses all it's kick leaving just some sugaryness on the palate.
Mouthfeel is clean for the most part but a little boring.
Drinkability is OK but this beer needs something more flavor-wise.

This beer (defenately a double, not a vienna lager), brewed in Netherlands, found at a local liquor store.

Dark brown colour, beige head, good lacing in the glass.
Smell and taste of caramel/burned sugar, some dark fruit notes. Roasted malts and nuts, faintly coffee.
Bittersweet in the aftertaste. Smooth and easy 6% 'er.
Good carbonation makes this thirstquenching.

A nice ale. Easy uncomplicated, but not a bad drink at all.

Poured from a 330 ml flip top bottle.

The look is very dark and murky, with no head to be found. The smell is faint, but I detect dark fruits and caramel malt right away. A bit tangy on the nose but also sweet.

The taste follows the nose, with a sweet, tartness that can only be described as old raspberries and fig. Not the most pleasant taste on my palate, especially coupled with an extremely light mouth and almost no carbonation to be found. The alcohol is all but undetectable.

Overall it was worth trying, but not something I'd pursue again.

A: The beer is very hazy brown in color with some reddish highlights and has some large visible particles of yeast floating in suspension near the bottom of the glass. It poured with a thin off white head that quickly died down but left wispy lacing on the surface and a thick ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: The smell has aromas of malts, dark fruits, sweetness and yeast.
T: The taste is very similar to the smell; it is quite malty with a bit of sweetness but neither of these flavors seems to be overpowering and are well balanced with notes of dark fruits and yeast. No bitterness is detectable.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a bit smooth on the palate with a low to moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I really enjoyed this beer because it is very drinkable and tastes like a “light” version of a Belgian Strong Dark Ale that has been aged and has lots of yeast sediment at the bottom of the glass.

Brown flip-top bottle, best before June 2011, drank and reviewed 7 Jan 2011.

Poured into a Duvel glass.

The body was a murky red/brown colour, more red than brown. The tan/cream coloured head was impressive for 20 seconds, it then began to fade away to leave a collar and some wisps within a minute, what a pity, my only fault.

Molasses and toffee apples were the smells I got, along with a mini-sourness, like cooking apples boiled without sugar.

The toffee and malty molasses dominate the taste, semi-sweet with a morsel citrus/hop bitterness in the background.

The bite was good, well carbonated without being at all gaseous or fizzy. The best beer of this type I've had so far. That includes Andechser Dunkel.

Impressed from start to finish (apart from the head fade).

Appearance is average, maybe a bit old bottle though. Lots of sediment but no head or lacing.
Smell is decent. I get a lot of caramel and some yeasty smell.
Taste is good, caramelly and malty.
Mouthfeel is medium with no carbonation
Drinkabilty is good as well.

The best way I can describe this beer is an imperial Sam Adams Boston Lager. It has much of the same taste and balance, but more intense and just a deeper, heavier beer.

The appearence is a slightly hazy brown amber with a nice little head, but not terrible large.

The aroma is bready, caramelly deliciousness. No hops really to speak of, but just a total maltbomb, delicious.

Taste is again like the aroma malty, devoid of hops. It could use a little more complexity.

The mouthfeel is a little dense for me. Smooth, but dense and not as refreshing as I like a Vienna Lager to be.

Originally was disappointed, but then....Hmmm...possabilities.
Poured a deep cloudy amber with very limited carbonation.
Aroma was non descript really, very light yet impressive in a minor league. Not sure how.
The head was short and lacked any residual substance.
The body is a medium/ full.
Taste has a citrus quality to it which seems to change constantly.
First lead is hop heavy then second to the malts..then reversed.
Medium sugared grapefruit linger.
End result is....Malt advantage, 2-1.5

The beer pours to a hazy rusted brown color with a nice effervescent head. Retention is poor, and the head leaves little lacing. Only a small bit of carbonation rising to the surface. Very hazy for a lager, and I was even careful not to pour the sediment.

The smell is sweet and bready with a biscuity malt profile. Smells fuggley. A hint of vegetal lagering byproducts and a smaller hint of sour.

The taste is very slightly tart and fades into a yeasty, biscuity malt flavor with a decent hop bite in the finish. Has a light vegetal flavor to it as well.

This beer feels medium to heavy in body with a sharp carbonation sting. Very crisp, but not so much clean. Finishes with a light tartness and a good hops bitterness that linger for quite some time after the finish. I can even taste a hint of alcohol, which is surprising for 6% lager. A decent beer when fresh, but otherwise it can turn into a tart cardboard bomb (such as my previous review that I edited over with this fresher sample to give it some justice).

(330 ml swingtop bottle, bought in Denmark). Copper colour, hazy, good thick head. Lovely aroma of spices, leather and caramel - from the aroma, I’d swear this was a Belgian ale. Bottom fermented it is, and it’s easier to sense this is a lager through the flavour and aftertaste, which still are very good. Malty flavour, mild spices and caramel without too much sweetness. Lightly hopped. Moreish.

Poured from flip top bottle into 0.3l Jever flute.

Pours a hazy brown color that is slightly gray ? Head is pretty but not big, barely 2mm thick with low retention.

Fresh malt and citrus nose with slight hay. Initial very acidic whiffs.

Taste: This beer is very heavily malted and seems to have lot attenuation. Hops are barely noticeable. Instead, the beer is balanced by acidity, much like a big wine. Acid profile dominated by malic acid, i.e. apple crispness. Quite unusual beer.

Mouthfeel is viscuous and a bit sour.

Drinkability is low due to unusual character and heavy maltiness.

Overall an interesting experimental beer but does not seem like a great embodiment of a classical style.
