This is the store I attend the most. Its beer cooler/selection is very clearly dominated by the domestic and american swill that passes for beer in north america (and england). That said, there is a decent selection of imports and a few canadian micro's. Sam smiths showed up recently and they seem to have the best prices in the beltline/17th/mission area on a good selection Unibrew beers (Fin du monde y'all!). The guys here are super nice and very talkative. They can give advice and jokes all in one package. Very friendly.
Good enough for you average night but not well enough stocked for a tasting night, unless Granville Island, Sapporo and Hoegaarden are your targets (not to deride those breweries at all, simply pointing out the more commercial nature of this shop).
(there is a specialty wine and beer shop down 4th if that is what you want)

The guys at 4th Street Liquor were very helpful finding beer when I simply asked "What shouldn't I miss?" Ended up taking a variety pack from Big Rock brewery that I would have missed. According to the staff, Big Rock is credited with turning beer around in British Columbia.
Also a nice range of beers not available in Minnesota from St. Peter's (England) to Innis & Gunn (Scotland) to Fruli (Belgium) to Tree Brewing (British Columbia). While the selection doesn't match the 1000 beers of my local liquor store, it is very good compared to what I've found elsewhere in Canada.
All of the beers were fresh, and tasted good going down. Most of the beer was in a walk in cooler, so the beer is well taken care of. Also, it is only a few blocks drive from the downtown Brewster's brewpub in Calgary. Nice combination stop on the way to Banff, and a good chance to pick up some good beer for the cooler while visiting the parks.

In the heart of Mission this was my regular neighbourhood stop for 6 years (and I still do pop in from time to time). Although the selection cannot be described as massive, it is most certainly ample. All the beer they offer is chilled in a walk in cold room, with an entire wall of shelves dedicated to imports and microbrews, which is well rounded. New brands are introduced and rotated on a fairly regular basis. They also carry seasonal and limited edition Unibroue labels, what more could you ask for?! The staff are incredibly friendly and personable, and always willing to discuss their stock. Maybe not the place to go when searching for something rare, but definitely worth dropping by when shopping for great beer.
