Review: Bottle of Feldschlösschen Original Pale Lager, 4.80%ABV

One doesn’t generally associate beer with the Swiss, Chocolate and cooking clocks yes, but good beer? Feldschlösschen is a beer that can take on the big guns of Germany, Britain and the rest in Europe and hold its head up high. Its a bloody good beer, with a nice taste and easy to drink.

Loved the appearance of pure clear yellow colour, bright and clean with a good big frothy head on top that stays with some lacing. Looks refreshing and tantalisingly good, saying "drink me, please!". Yeah that’s a cheesy line, Swiss style! A decent beer though.

The aroma is light and malty, on the grainy side but with a little sweetness.

Taste: What a light lager should be like; a nice crisp and smooth refreshing drink. Grain dominates the taste with very little bitterness.
Not complex, well balanced, and very easy to drink. Could drink these all day long, perfect for a light session with friends.

Reviewing from memory as i suddenly thought about this beer. I have to agree with some commenters as this one seems to be a bit too much underrated. No wonder it is by far my highest rDev at the moment.

I remember a fresh and clean aroma of malts and grassy hops, almost Helles like, with a slight of citrus.

Sweet, malty and bitter in a balanced way, it made the views from Schindellegi to Zurich lake even more pleasant. As someone commented we had Schneider Hefes and the likes in the fridge, and most of the beer in Zurich was great, but for some reason this humble local lager stood up the most on those days, and made a perfect accompaniment for the swiss sausages by the bbq.

Medium body and great drinkability.

Don´t get the ratings wrong. A more than decent and tasty lager to be had over usual macros.

50cl Can, BBD 14th Sep 2014, poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard on 15th Oct 2013: finally got my Swiss tick. My son-in-law had a business trip to Zurich and brought back this and another can for me.

Pale golden, clear, bright and clean looking, on top a thin white crown.

Slightly sweet in both aroma and taste: crisp and refreshing with all the usual lager/pilsner/helles attributes. Nothing to make it stand out from all the other brews in this style, but nothing wrong with it either.

This beer is a national emblem in Swizerland, if you go around there you should try. It is nothing special, even is probably the best Swiss beer I have tried. Coulor light yellow, taste a bit metallic, smell clear, good hangover the day after... Definetly buy again
