500 ml bottle into lager glass, best before 8/26/2013. Pours slightly hazy golden straw color with a small dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon, grape, pear, apple, honey, cracker, biscuit, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Ok aromas with a large amount of fruitiness present with some pale malt and earthy hops in the background; with good strength. Taste of lemon, pear, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Slight earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, pear, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish. Nice balance of pale malt, earthy hops, and yeast ester notes; with solid robustness and no cloying flavors after the finish. Taste is much more clean and balanced than the nose. A bit on the bland side, but not watery. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and clean mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a solid Munich helles. Other than the overly fruity aromas; taste was pleasant, balanced, and clean; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A pleasant and enjoyable offering.

Half liter vom fass at Gasthof Hammer in Vilseck for the incredible price of €3,20. A Helles of this quality (relatively average in Germany) would be nearly three times the price in USD at top lager breweries in the US. Absurd. Anyway, delicious Helles. Massive flavor for such a “simple” beer. Imagine this was the standard in the US. Instead, it’s Bud and Bud Light. Crystal clear, quality malt bill, big grain flavor, great body/feel/finish. Surprisingly good.

Pours a crystal clear, bright golden color with a big, foamy head.

Smells almost muted with a note of straw and herbal hops.

Has a medium carbonation with a soft, aqueous mouthfeel among a light bodied beer.

Tastes of sweet oats, toffee, straw and a faint hint of leaves. Got a light dryness to it during the finish with its lively carbonation getting more present, entirey coated by toffee malts, which prevails in the aftertaste.

Pleasantly balanced with a well composed, strawy sweet taste.

Half litre flip top bottle, poured into over sized Tripel
Karmeliet tulip.

A: Golden colour, clear, fairly lively looking, large foamy head, decent retention,
fair amount of lacing.

S: Curious mix of noblehops, Bavarian malts and slight yeasty esters,
also slight orangy notes.

T: Very malt forward, went from sweet to slight charcoal, also had faint
grassy notes.

M: Light body, moderate carbonation, smooth enough to go down well.

O: A good crisp malty refreshing Helles lager, one of
thousands, but a very good every day beer.

500ml swing top.

It pours a slightly darker than usual gold with a foamy white head that leaves nice lacing as it recedes.

There is an off-scent in the smell, not sure what to think of it.

The flavor is decent. It is nutty, bready, and crackery. The hops provide a slight bit of depth.

Overall it is a really plain beer, not exactly typical Frankisch quality.

Pours a crisp golden blonde with a decent amount of head standing firm. Aromas of grassy hops, wheat and a hint of caramel malts. Moderate to light bodied in the mouth, somewhat strong wheat flavor, noticeable bittering hops, and some subtle fruits poking through. Smooth and wet in the swallow with the caramel making an appearance. Slightly bitter but mellow aftertaste. Pretty flat across the board on this one--a decent traditional Bavarian lager.

Poured from a flip-top half-liter bottle into a pilsner glass... it's a clear golden color, extremely bubbly with a huge white head. Great retention on the head. For starting with the golden color it's actually a good looking beer!

Smell is not as good... it has a dominant straw aroma with a small hint of hops.

The taste is a little bit more bold than the aroma with a little less straw flavor. The warmer it gets the worse it gets, though. By the time I was done with the half-pint (and it didn't take long) I wasn't enjoying the flavor nearly the same.

It's light, refreshing... not a bad beer but at $4.99 for a half-liter I don't need another one.

500ml brown swingtop bottle, the last of the variety offerings recently made available at the only distributor in my town. Freshness date of 9/16 appears on the front label.

Poured into a pint glass this brew appears a very light straw yellow color with decent clarity. Initially pours with more than a finger of head that settles down to a thing cap atop the brew that retains quite well and leaves spotty amounts of lace on the glassware.

The aroma of this brew is strikingly similar to the other offerings I had from this brewery. A very fresh grainy scent upfront that yields some sweetness about the nose and a very, very light touch of hops in the background.

Taste is, as expected from the aroma, grainy upfront with a sweetness about it. Not much more to say about this offering other than it is light bodied, crisp finishing, modestly carbonated and all together refreshing. There is a lingering taste of grain and a light touch of hops and a small indication of the nearly 5% alcohol in the back of the throat. This is not a beer I would sit down and savor but I would drink again as a mere substitute for a lawnmower summer brew.

A- 3-finger head, fluffy and full. Very pale yellow and clear brew.
S - Sweet malt and german hops. Smells clean and yummy.
T - Sweet grain, nice hop bittering to balance. Pretty decent.
M/F - Light body but has some substance to it for being light. Refreshing - active carbonation yet delicate
D - a decent brew that fills the bill yet isn't amazing.

Poured an orange cloudy color, nice head; smells like bread and citrus. It was carbonated, yet very light with a nice yeast and malt flavor and a slight citrus taste. Medium overall body with a good flavor, but not great. Easy to drink and I would have it again, especially at the price of $2.99 a 25 oz bottle.

Appearance: Poured into a pilsener glass. Pours a light golden color with decent head retention. Little lacing forms.

Smell: Mildly astringent, some mild spiciness, otherwise corn, wheat.

Taste: Initial hop bitterness upon first taste, seems that corn adjuncts form the basis of the malt base here. Hops produce a mild spicy/flowery taste in the middle. A little bitterness remains through the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: A little carbonating sting; otherwise fairly smooth but light. Nothing remarkable.

Drinkability: Quite drinkable. Nothing here to stop you from having a few in one sitting.

Overall: Comparable to better American macro lagers. Nothing remarkable, but nothing to complain about.
