Had on tap at the Toronado, definitely not the first time...
Pours a light straw with a rocky albino white head with decent lacing.
The smell is citrusy and piney, typical IPA smell sans the heavy grapefruit.
Wallop of bitterness hits right way, giving an initial harshness. Flavors of citrus and pine with a big time floral vibe. Not as juicy as most west coast IPAs, nor is it as complex or bitter. After the initial hit, a grainy bread malt underlies the whole drink becoming more present in the finish. The bitterness is strong (and a little harsh), but there is some semblance of balance.
Very smooth once the drinker has adjusted and acclimated to the upfront hop hit, but harsh at the onset. Because the flavor isn't as upfront, I have found this to be a great sessioner. Super clean and unoffensive, delivers in flavors, goes down like bottled water.
Let's be honest. This beer is in an unforgiving league. We have Plinies, Racers, Alesmiths, Anderson Valley, the list goes on. If I had the choice, this probably wouldn't be the highest IPA on my list. But for a casual drink, it really comes through. It is easy to quaff and entirely enjoyable without being "too" much, like so many of the aforementioned beers.

12 oz, bottle poured into a pint glass (bottled 4 months ago)
A-Lively bubbles on the pour with about 1 1/2 fingers of foam, dissipating to less than one in the first minute. Nice, golden color with a little haze to it.
S-Malty sweetness with a little aroma of orange peel.
T-Still relatively malty as the nose indicated but better hop presence in the taste. I'm still getting primarily citrus with some spiciness showing up as it warmed. More hop bitterness on the finish.
M-Medium bodied with pleasant carbonation. It lingers slightly on the tongue.
O-The sum is better than its parts on this one. I don't think it offers a lot on the nose and isn't the most powerful or complex tasting IPA on the market. However, I enjoy this beer and would buy it again. Would probably get higher reviews from me if labeled generically as "ale." As an IPA, it's lacking in hop character.

Creamy 1 finger head with staying power. Solid lacing
Subtle hop aroma
Good carb, pleasant malt forefront with a nice bitter finish. Not overwhelming hops but a little piney and a little citrusy. All around it is easy drinking and deceptively boozy for a DIPA
