This pours a caramel-color with nice foaming. Only been two days so I wouldn’t expect it to lose too much carbonation in that time.

For a DIPA the aroma is on the lower end of the hop spectrum, with some pine and orange notes in equal measures. Flavor is bitterly upfront with a light, slightly sweet body that’s more appetizer than main course. A solid brew all around.

12oz. brown bottle, purchased at Party Source, poured into an Stone IPA Flute. No dating.

A: Pours a sun dried golden raisin color with a bit of haze. 1 1/2 fingers of fluffy, pearl white head forms and hangs out a bit. Decent patching throughout.

S: Nice fruity esters. Juicy grapefruit and pineapple. A bit of hop leaf resin and pine. Malts seem a tad weak and add a touch of sweetness, but that's about it.

T/M: Nice, strong bitterness but not palate ruining... yet :) Very fruity and with much more resin and pine than the nose suggests. Malts rush in to a super sweet and chewy dough and grain mix. Body is a bit above medium and have a bit chunkiness when the malts come in. Finish is pretty dry with a pleasant lingering bitterness.

D: Decent brew that I could see myself getting to change things up from the IPA/DIPA usual suspects. 9.50%? Really? Yow... Maybe just 2 for tonight, haha.

Light amber in color with a mild chill haze. Good starting head that has some staying power. Spotty lace on the glass.

Surprisingly, after trying their regular IPA, I find this one to be more mild in the nose. It still has an attractive floral hop aroma of citrus (grapefruit). Low malt.

The flavor is where the big beer comes through. Lots of oily alcohol texture with a solid malt bass. The hops are not as overwhelming as some DIPA's, but are strong enough to create great balance. This is a deceptively strong beer at 9.5%. The aftertaste is mostly hop but the malt is still present.

I love the balance of Speakeasy's two IPA's. This one is one of the tops in my tastings.

No date. The only possible indicator could be the inscription "Double Down 001"? Nothing found on their website.

A: Light translucent golden color with a chill haze that dissipated a bit as it cooled.

S: Sweet floral citrusy hop in the nose but not overpowering, surprising given this is an IIPA

T: Wow, not the hop shot I was expecting. Begins with citrus - grapefruit, continues with floral hops and bubblegum and finishes with a nice clean maltiness. Afterward is semi-dry with a bit of hoppiness remaining in the back of my mouth. Very well balanced.

M: Initally tingly on the tounue, then the medium-bodied mass brings forth its offering to roil around in the mouth. Finally, this elixer ends with a bit of stick-in-the troat hops to remind you what you're drinking and to take another sip.

D: Dangerously drinkable for the ABV. The alcohol is well hidden - hard to believe it's over 9%. I could down a few of these before I realize what's going on...I think it's already beginning to take hold...

Overall the best IIPA I've had to date. Nicely balanced hops and malt and not overpowering like many IIPA's I've had. The hops were more subdued than I expected; it could be that this one sat around for a while, given the Big distributor in Allentown where it came from. I'm not a big fan of huge hops, so that works in my favor. If this is fresher than I suspect, it can only get better with time.

First brew sampled from Speakeasy, looking forward to s'more.

A: Nice, golden ale color. Low carbonation, probably due to cold serving temp. With a swivel, I got a decent head.

S: Very nice. Burnt conifer and pineapple. Like walking in a temperate and tropical rainforest all at once.

T: Piney hops on ye tip o' the tongue, mild yet intense bitterness in the mouth. But there is plenty of wonderful maltiness there too. It hits you differently..if this is typical of Imperial India Pale Ale, I like this style.

M: Rockin'. Cannot recall a brew, I wanted to keep in my mouth longer. Holy fillin', Batman!

D: IF I had another, I might just check in for the night. Hard-core, one of the more potent brews I've ever had. The drinkability is good nonetheless. Brings out that brilliant buzz. West Coast!
