On tap at Noc Noc's for SF Beer week. Have only had a couple of tastes of their beers, but I'll give them another shot.

A - Pours orange and leaves a 1.5 finger of white head. Dissipates moderately slow and leaves nice lacing.

S - Caramel, grapefruit and citrus.

T - Similar to smell, but with resiny bittering hops. This is so good...

M - Full-bodied, hop dominated, sweet and lightly dry.

D - Perfect. This was so damn good. The only beer that got a repeat order from me and the lady. Excellent job on this beer. Fantastic. If more complex malts and lacing, this would have received a 5.

Best beer of SF beerweek!

I had a twelve ounce glass of this the other day. It was a little strong and not as good as the Double Daddy but certainly worth trying.

Appearance is a golden copper color, good carbonation but not much head. Less than a finger.

Aroma is very citrusy but the alcohol was also very present in the smell.

Taste, as mentioned, is a little strong but all the elements of a double ipa are there. If not for the alcohol it's otherwise a pretty balanced beer.

Overall not bad. I'll try it again but you can't drink too many of them.

taste- sweet bitter hops, chocolate, nice fruit, mint, metallic taste in the finish

color- amber

clarity- clear

smell- roasted malts, chocolate

body- medium-length finish, medium-weight, nice hop bite throughout the entire drink

appearance- little carbonation and lace retention, don't let the appearance fool you, very enjoyable

overall impression- great, above average beer, one of the stand-outs at the festival

notes and comments- has a flavor profile of a barleywine, yet leaner

beer spy- double ipa festival, bistro, hayward ca, 2/12/11, 6 oz. glass

On-tap at Pacific Coast Brewing

A: The pour is a clear golden amber color with a decent sized, but short lived, white head.

S: The nose is sweet with lots of tropical fruit notes like pineapple and mango. There's a decent enough citrus note, but the beer seems pretty sugar and caramel forward.

T: It's pretty sweet on the palate, too, but there is a decent enough bitterness. Lots of pineapple, mango, honey, and some grapefruit, too. There's some oily pine notes, and the beer has a certain stickiness to it.

M: The body is a bit on the heavy side for an IPA, but from the level of alcohol and sweetness, that's not really surprising.

D: Not quite as good as I was hoping, but still not terrible. I might give this one another chance just because I do enjoy a good IPA.
