I was in Ireland a couple summers ago, and it just occured to me a little while ago to submit the spots I visited to BeerFly. I was there for a wedding -- my cousin is from the US and his wife is from Ireland -- and for a short little vacation.
The wedding was in a small town in southern Ireland called Union Hall. Half the people I met had accents so thick I couldn't understand them or they flat out just spoke Gaelic. About an hour or so southwest of Cork, this isn't exactly a well-populated area. But it's beautiful -- just breathtaking countryside.
And Casey's, my favorite of the spots we visited while we were there, allowed you to take in a lot of that beauty. It's got only a small interior, but there are several tables out back (surrounded by trees and shrubs) that look out over the bay. Obviously, they pour their Guinness with time and care, and they've got a few other good brews on tap as well -- Smithwicks and some others, as I recall. This is the real deal for local, small-town Irish pubs. I had an absolute blast. Great fun.
