The color is the bright and clear pale-medium gold typical to the style, but this beer has a head of pure white fluff seems to strive to be respectable in size, retention and stick. It doesn't quite maintain, but certainly better than most out there. There's more than just the minimal spotting, even if the head isn't large or sturdy.
There's actually some malt to this, biscuit and bread, with a slight note of grass and lightly earthy bitterness. The only adjunct note is that vaguely metallic note, but it's barely there.
It's a little too grainy and some corn husk does come out, but this beer avoids the overly sweet aspect of many adjuncts and the mess it leaves on the tongue. There's a slight note of herbal leaf, some must, and the biscuit the nose gives. I'd pick this up over a BMC for sure.
This is a pretty dry one, though a light undercurrent of gentle sweetness keeps it from being abrasive. It is as light-bodied as expected but not terribly watery, with a good bite of crispness that almost overcompensates. It's fairly smooth as well.

Clear yellow beer, no head. Bad aroma, not quite sweet corn, but meh.

Similar taste to adjuncts, nothing negative to speak of aside from that it is just lacking much taste, but does not contain off putting taste like the truly bad shit does. Make no mistake, there is truth in advertising, as this comes off completely ordinary.

Decent carbonation keeps the mouthfeel lively despite the lack of ingredients. Cheap, but BMC has an advertising budget, so this is similarly priced why? I dunno, can't see what niche this fits into. . . I mean, at least Keystone Light has Keith Stone. This is just the same kind of beer but at an edgy, earthy grocery store.

Keep in mind I am reviewing more per style and less per personal taste.

Big, bone white, whispy, easy to subside head. Color is two shades more yellow than water. Not a lot of carbonation strings.

Smells like cheap chardonnay; aroma is fermented green apples and white grapes.

Tastes like it smells, though there is a small doughiness in the aftertaste.

Bright, light, and less harsh than other offerings carbonation wise.

This shit is 3.99 a sixer, cheaper than Bud Light. If you like beers like this one, then go out and support a pretty cool company that supported craft beer before the bigger supermarket chains figured it out. Better than Bud Light and worse than Miller Lite.

A - Clear. Very pale straw color. A decent enough head and some nice lacing.

S - Pale malt. A little sweet, but overall the aroma is not very strong. Pretty typical for the style.

T/M - Very light and dry. However, it lacks the usual crisp finish I expect. A slight grainy flavor. Nothing off. A very typical American Lager.

D - Not my favorite style but a good representation. Better than some of the more commonly available brands of the style.

Poured out of a bottle into a mug.

Appearance: Nice golden color, looks like your typical american light beer. The head disappeared quickly and little lacing.

Smell: Has a slight sweet but not very strong. Kind of like a typical american lager smell.

Taste: It has a mild flavor that is not too strong. Has a mild sweetness that is not that great. It is light, clean and crisp that seems a little syrupy.

Mouthfeel. Has a good mouthfell. It has a crisp felling which allows the beer to go down smooth.

Drinkability: It is an easy beer to drink. It is relatively smooth but only has a little taste. Probably would drink again but easily forgotten.

12 oz bottle from Trader Joe's. Pours pale yellow without much of a head. Aroma is of corn. Taste is kind of like a corn syrup soda. Body is watery. I could not finish the bottle. It's easily the worst beer type beverage I have ever tried. I'd rather drink Coors lite.

Poured from 12oz bottle into beer drinking glass.

Poured light golden with two finger head little lacing lots of carbonation.

Smell was of sweet corn with light malts.

Taste was light with sweet hops and malt - light clean crisp.

Very drinkable beer - for the price you can't go wrong.

Thanks again to cdkrenz for sharing his beer hoard with me!

A - Pale straw yellow color with little to no white head. The head recedes quickly leaving absolutely no lacing. Rather high in carbonation.

S - The usual suspects for this beer style. A bit biscuity with a cooked corn aroma. Not a real appealing aroma.

T & M - Very light bodied, the corn adjunct is the main player in terms of flavor. The heavy carbonation gives it a rather coarse mouthfeel. Heavy carbonation + light body = nothing to be particularly proud of as a brewer.

D - This is a craft beer with a fancy label, but the brew itself is not much greater than the likes of your common BMC beer. Not recommended, but then again, I would never recommend an American Adjunct Lager anyways.

A - Pale yellow body atop a head that faded so fast I can't tell you about it.

S - If you like the musky aroma of soap you'll love this beer.

T - Mild lightly roasted grains, if they're roasted at all. This is not something I will recommend or sample again anytime soon.

M - It goes down as well as it should. Well enough to be consumed. I will say this though. This is the best quality this brew has.

~ I'm sorry but there not something here that would make me run at this brew again. It's too sweet and lacks character for it to one that I would put my name on.

Poured into a pint glass on 6/27/10

Clear straw golden yellow color. 1/8th inch of very loose foam starts to dissipate immediately. Bubbles on the inside of the glass rise & try to feed the head, but is doomed; no retention or lace. Am I looking at watered-down apple juice?

Not sure how the aroma comes off as almost sticky-sweet, but it does. Mild notion of tart apple, plenty adjunct grains, some grassiness & a bit of dry, musty yeast hidden in back. A touch of hops too, but certainly not enough to save the otherwise disappointing aroma.

For joy, the taste is nearly an exact replica of the treasures found in the aroma (nose goblins might be a more appropriate term, in this case). Random adjuncts & grains are ever-so-slightly masked with an ok amount of grassiness; a tickle that I suppose is intended to pass for hops; a spritz of apple & a pervassive toastiness.

Lighter in body, the feel suffers due to low carbonation; were it higher, the bad flavor might be further masked. Then again, it might drag it farther to the fore. In any case, it might not let the beer linger for so long.

This beer is technically drinkable but downright forgettable. However, is it ordinary? By comparison, some things I consider ordinary: work; paying bills; washing dishes & doing laundry; buying groceries - none of which I look forward to, nor in them do I find excessive amounts of enjoyment. Frugal Joe's Ordinary Beer, in this respect, lives up to its name.

A: Very clear and no head retention at all.

S: Light on the aroma, what is found is not pleasing.

T: Typical carbonation, very bland.

M: A crisp lager, just about the same smoothness as most adjunct lagers.

D: Does not have me coming back for more.

Notes: Ehhh.. . well for 80 cents a bottle at the Joe's I would get something else over this. possibly a waste of a bottle. Come on Joe put it in a can.

Ultra-clear. 1/4" head on stiff pour. Pours like a macro lager. Head is gone before I set it down. Constant stream of bubbles. Looks well carbonated.

Smells corny, sweet. Much more so than a macro lager. No hops. Smells a bit like a malt liquor.

Not much to it. Tastes a bit like a malt liquor. No bitterness. Light hint of sweetness that is not enjoyable.

So thin, so thin.

A shadow of a beer. I'd rather have a beast ... if you are going for unoffensive-to-none, go all the way.

Appearance: Unimpressive pale yellow. About as pale as they come. Not much foam and no lacing.

Smell: Fairly strong barley malt and a bit of hops as well. A pretty decent American lager smell quite honestly.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Now this is what BMC should aim for! Strong, fresh barley malts. Tastes like mineral water in the background; earthy but not metallic. Nice hops bitterness in the background. A definite presence of alcohol at the end that I love.

Drinkability: Generally speaking, much more complex and intriguing than American macrobrews.

Overall: See drinkability.

A: Very light, no head and no lacing. Very carbonated, the bubbles don't stop.

S: Smells kind of cheap, little bit fruity, but not much else.

T: Tastes like it smell, kind of cheap. I don't know if they stole this recipe from Bud Light or something. I guess when you call it Frugal Joe's Ordinary Beer, you shouldn't expect too much.

M: Very water, no substance at all.

D: I don't know if I'm going to finish this, considering how many better beers I have in my fridge.

Overall: The beer delivers on its name. It looks cheap, smells cheap, and tastes cheap. If you like your standard beers Bud, Coors, Miller etc, you'll enjoy this. If you're looking for a great beer, look elsewhere. I'll have to say, they hooked me with the clever label.

Appearance: Poured a pale yellow color, clear. One finger bubbly had with minimal retention. Visible carbonation. No lacing.

Smell: Grainy roasted caramel malts. Slight hop flavor and sweetness.

Taste: Grainy malts, but without a bitter or harsh taste. Very mild flavor. Little in the ways of hops. Medium sweetness.

Mouthfeel: Thin to medium bodied. Little bite. Not entirely smooth

Drinkability: Decently drinkable. Mostly forgettable beer, but a decent flavor and smooth enough for being so simple.

12 Ounce brown bottle poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Very light yellow in color with a decent amount of white head that disappears fairly quick

Smell: Smell of sweetcorn similar to a lot of beers of this type but also has a little hint of fruitiness

Taste: Very light feel but has a surprisingly good taste. It almost has a fruity/bread sweetness but not too strong. A lot better then expected.

Ok, this beer is actually pretty good for the style. The color is very pale yellow with a small white head that leaves quickly falling bubbly lacing on the glass. It looks like you are drinking (and smelling) a standard light beer, but the taste is much smoother than average. VERY drinkable. Smooth with a light citrus taste. It is fairly ordinary as the label says, but in a good way.

Got a bottle of this at Trader Joe's a month or two ago since it was like $.75 cents a bottle or something dirt cheap like that, so I figured it couldn't be that bad right? Got the urge to finally try this earlier tonight Poured into my pint glass. this beer pours a very clear pale yellow gold straw color. I think this might be the lightest colored beer I have ever seen. White head is about 1/2 inch when poured, settling quickly to a medium sized ring lining the inside of the glass. Little lace. The very clear and pale color is what really surprised me appearance wise here. Has a sweet malt aroma with some corn or rice or adjunct of sorts. Not skunky or musty, but the aroma is not as potent as an aroma from a beer should be. Slightly sweet malty flavor upfront followed by the aforementioned corn or rice or whatever the hell it is. Not trace of hops here at all that I could detect. Not offensively bad or shitty tasting like beers of this style that are actually brewed by the usual big corporate BMC suspects, just a bland and uninteresting flavor. It does have a slight metallic extract bitter taste just slightly noticeable on the back end that is almost barely detectable, but it is there. Again not as pronounced like in a lot of other beers I have had of this style. Crisp, light bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Easy to drink because it is like drinking sugar water, not beer. Not something I would buy again, but I'd probably have one or two if I was at a barbecue or something and this is what was being offered. Not impressed at all though.
