Really a nice aroma of flowery hops. Very fragrant. Amber color in the chalice, clear, and nicely topped with a sudsy foam. Some toasty malt, a touch of fruit like an English Pale Ale, and a pleasant biscuit finish. Foams up nicely with every pour.

Bitterness is more what you might expect to encounter in a American Pale Ale, which is not a bad thing according to me. Flavor is nothing notable, but it is so thoroughly drinkable I find it endearing, especially as a bargain brew with real flavor. And the aroma greets you with every sip, down to the last. Aftertaste continues some of the malty flavors and the well-behaved hops provide the balance.

From the 12 oz bottle on the singles shelf at Trader Joe's.

Purchased at Trader Joe's. $6.99 for a 6-pack. Poured into pint glass. Another fun fact: this beer is brewed by Firestone Walker.

A: Clear orange color with a fizzy one-finger white head. Recedes into white crown. Lacing is pretty good.

S: Has a really fresh flowery and fruity hop smell. There's a nice undertone of fairly heavy malt, as well.

T: Again, the taste is very flowery and fruity. It's not bitter at all, but it's not a sugar bomb. This is honestly quite a good taste for an IPA. The caramel malt sufficiently balances the nice flow of hop flavors. Ends with a bit of a nutty grain flavor. Again...not bitter. You get all of the hop flavors with minimal bitterness. The taste profile makes this beer a prime candidate for introducing BMC drinkers to IPAs.

M: Wet. Medium. A bit creamy and prickly. Pretty standard IPA.

O: To be really honest, this beer has a very similar hop profile to Hopslam. There's a nice fruity hop presence along with some of the depth of other hop characteristics. Obviously it's less powerful and has less alcohol, but the profile is comparable.

For about $1 each, this one cannot be beat. If you slap a RR, Founders, or some other high-profile brewery's label on it, you'd be paying at LEAST double. This can easily stand up against the big hitters in the IPA category....just look past the TJ label (this would a be a silent killer in a blind taste test.) There's no reason not to buy this when looking for a drinkable, flavorful IPA.

A nice bonus: since Trader Joe's is the main carrier of this beer (at least as far as I've seen,) you're pretty much guaranteed a fresh product. TJ's is amazing at rotating stock and is not subject to the typical bullshit-ery that some beer stores pull....

two finger frothy head on a slightly hazy golden amber body. Nice lacing. Aroma is excellent with lots of hops, pine, citrus and herbal notes. Flavor is less hoppy than I expected from the aroma. Most present in the finish as pine. Up front there is a mild citrus note which isnt very sweet. medium body and moderate carbonation. Overall the aroma is about as good as it can get.

My wife picked this up for me at Trader Joe's.

Appearance- copper color, nice size head, good head retention, nice lacing

Smell- grassy hops, very nice

Taste- hops, well balanced, not that bitter at all

Mouthfeel- medium bodied

Drinkability- I thought it was really good. Loved the aroma of fresh hops

12 fl oz brown glass bottle with standard pressure cap served into a Port Brewing sampler glass in me friend's gaff in low altitude Orange, California. Acquired at Trader Joe's in San Diego. Expectations are low.

Served refrigerator cold and allowed to warm over the course of consumption.

A: Pours a garbage head of a half finger thickness and ten second retention. Laughably awful for the relatively low ABV considering the style. Colour is a clear copper. No visible yeast particles.

Sm: Piney, hops - floral as much as bitter, and hints of resin over top clean malts. A mild strength aroma. Pleasant.

T: Pleasantly floral and piney, with some emergent hop bitterness. A clean malt foundation. Nicely balanced and built in spite of the untamed hop bitterness. Pleasant and enjoyable. Boring and simple. Not complex or subtle.

Mf: Smooth and wet. It's too thin. Adequately carbonated. I'd prefer it more crisp. No cream is present, but the style doesn't call for it.

Dr: Drinkable but boring and dull. I wouldn't get it again, but for 50 cents at Trader Joe's, I'm glad I bought it. Excellent for the price. The mouthfeel is awful and thin but the taste is pleasant for what it is.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a taster glass. Reviewed live.

A- Half a finger white head. Light and crap retention. Some lacing. Palest of gold color, clear as heck.

S- Floral hops and some honey notes. Sweetness but some distinct bitterness. Lacking a lot of complexity.

T- Light and hoppy, with distinct sweetness. Surprised.

M- Very thin feel, only respite is the chunkier carbonation. But watery and too thin for my liking.

O- Wonderful deal for the price (so I'm told by Kojevergas), and a surprise from what I thought was going to be a junk beer. Nice. Give it a try.

This is an understated brew that I find is a good value for its price.

It pours a toasted golden straw in color with a nice topping of foam.

There’s a pleasing, though muted, hop aroma. More on the citrus side with some cut grass.

Hops on the palate are piney and grassy, with some bitterness, but the flavor drops rapidly. It’s not bad but it doesn’t wow like their pale ale.

A: Poured from a bottle into a pint glass, appears a light amber color with an off-white head with decent retention.

S: Very nice, hoppy nose. Pine, citrus and fruit make the smell very appealing.

T: Starts off quite well, with caramel and light tropical fruitiness, then come the hops with pine and grapefruit flavors which are very nice until the finish, which is a bit watery.

M: Pretty light bodied with a nice, moderate carbonation. But that watery finish hurts the beer in this department.

O: For 7 bucks for a six pack, this is a very decent IPA. Great value again at Trader Joe's. Cheers!

A - Pours a clear light copper with a two finger off white head that dissipates quickly. Not too much lacing left behind.

S - Piney hops, citrus fruits, sweet caramel, and floral hops

T - Good amount of caramel and citrus fruits up front. Hops are not as strong as I would like but definitely still present. Ends with grapefruit and sweet malts.

M - On the lighter side of medium bodied. Decent resin left in mouth.

O - For the price, can't go wrong. A good IPA, picked it up at Trader Joes, may get it the next time too!

This beer poured copper, pale amber color, with very little head. There was a very pleasant hop aroma, with sweet malts on the nose. As with most American IPAs, the dominant flavor is hops. This beer is balanced between both citrus and grassy note. I was pleasantly surprised by this beer. For about a buck a bottle, this is a great value.

The beer is an orange brown colour with almost no head and few bubbles rising to the top of the glass.

Its smells slightly fruity and grapefruit like.

The taste is hoppy and bitter, not overly complex or flavoursome. Pretty boring but not terrible.

Felt a little too carbonated and a bit watery.

Drinkable but what can you expect at $1 a bottle certainly better than most beers in that price range.
