This brew starts off good with a nice deep gold color and light tan (thick) head. Head stayed a spell and finished to a thin lace. After that it is all down hill. Little to no aroma. Hints of caremel but that is it. Watry and thin in the mouth. Not much going on and I'm having a hard time to describe what this beer lacks. Lets just say everything

A nice dark, ruby, copper color. Head is just off white and very small. Lacing is almost non-existent. Great color, though.

Hops are small and floral in the nose while the malts are sweet and have that delicate touch of a lot of pale malt and then a little bit of a much darker malt added, opposed to a lot of medium kilned malt. I think.

Malt is thin and toasty with a little astringency thrown in for good measure. Hops are still small, but thinner than before and only come out as an earthy character. Bitterness is moderate and largest in the finish.

Thin and a bit dry.

This got an A- from the Bros?

Got this one in a mixed 6-pack from Trader Joe's.

Poured a dark reddish brown with a decent amount of white head on it. Not much on the nose to me, just some maltiness. Taste is pretty light as well. Caramel flavor with a slightly bitter finish. Pretty light feel, easy drinking beer.

12 ounce bottle from Trader Joe's. Pours a copper color with a small short lived head. Not much lacing. Aroma is very light, some hops and toffee. Taste is some pine hops with citrus notes and caramel malts. Finish is long and pleasantly dry. On the whole, there is not much to write about but dissent brew nevertheless

This reddish brown colored lager has a nice light tan colored head that seems to be leaving a nice lace on the sides of the glass. Nice clarity.

Smell is malty and bready with very little in the way of hops. Maybe a slight fruitiness in there as well (not citrus...more of a plum like aroma).

Taste is smooth with a slight tingling sensation applied by the combination of the hops and carbonation. The only thing that brings the score down a bit is that there seems to be a slight metallic taste on the back end.

Good mouthfeel- medium, but that metallic taste on the palate brings this score down as well.

I could drink a few of these no problem.

Morey's Bottom Line: If it weren't for the slight metallic taste, this lager would be right up there with Elliot Ness of which this beer reminds me. I can get past it, but it's still noticable.

A: Nice strong amber color. Decent white head that left some slight lacing.

S: Decent smell of sweet caramel malts.

T: Nice sweet flavor of the caramel malts. Finishes with a slight taste of hops.

M: Relatively thin beer but I wasn't expecting too much chew to an amber lager.

D: It's decently drinkable. Certainly tasty enough to have another, but I'd probably opt for something else.

Overall: Overall the beer was enjoyable. The caramelized malts were the main actor in this beer. I'd recommend most people try this beer, but it's nothing that will amaze you.

A - Nice copper body topped by an eggshell colored head standing just under an inch tall, and holding some decent stamina too.

S - Medium roasted malt and a hint of hops.

T - Slightly nutty flavor with a roasted tone to it. There's an interesting sublte hop flavor here too.

M - The feel is rather soft with little abbrasion until the finish. The finish actually does a good job of requesting more sips.

~ Overall this is a very consumable brew. I only picked up one in order to sample it but the next time I hit Trader Joe's I'll have to grab a couple more.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle on 8/6/09.

A - Pours a clear amber color with just a fine layer of bubbles on the surface

S - sweet malt, earthy aroma, but nothing really outstanding

T - sweet malt, earthy hops, piney with some brown sugar, as with the aroma, nothing too outstanding

M/D - not alot to write home about, average flavor, could drink more but not looking for it

Purchased in Westfield, NJ at the only Trader Joe's in the state that has a liquor license.

A - Pours an amber colour, inch head with moderate lacing
S - Very malty, but loses a few points for being metallic
T - A very balanced hoppiness and maltiness, I detect some toasted caramel in the malts
M - Medium to light bodied
D - A very good lawnmower beer

A really good beer for the value.

Pours a darkish translucent copper with an inch of head which dissipates over about 30 seconds leaving little lace. Smell is a little bit sweet, a little bit hoppy, generally pleasant, but gives little clue as to what the beer will actually taste like.

In fact, it tastes pretty much like it smells, although a little bit sweeter. It's on the sweeter side compared to some other amber lagers - the label talks about caramel malts, and they're out in force. Goes down very easily - you can drink this like a light lager. Mouthfeel is edges on syrupy, but not cloyingly so. Altogether very well balanced, with no negatives to speak of.

12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Why aren't ambers ever an amber color these days? Or rather, why aren't a lot of them? It's more of a lighter copper color, though there's a decent lacing and retention that save it.

Smell: Astringent and metallic bitterness with a slim sense of caramel malt and sweetness. Not too much is discernible.

Taste: There's a weird balance between hops and malt here, almost astringently and pungently so, but it's almost metallic rather than representative of good hopping. Too much odd bitterness kind of drowns out any semblance of caramel malt flavor. Astringent and fairly short finish.

Mouthfeel: Lighter bodied with way too much carbonation, which doesn't help the flavors to come out, obviously, and unfortunately.

Drinkability: "Clean and malty"? Kind of. Could I drink a few of these after mowing the lawn? Yep. But there are many better ambers out there, even for $6 a 6-pack.

A - Poured into a pint glass, only a very small head that quickly died down to a small lacing. The color is a very clear dark amber (odd given the name, right?)

S - Malty caramel sweetness, maybe a bit of lactose.

T - Nothing really besides some malty sweetness, and a bit of caramel. Average for style, nothing better.

M/D - It's an easy enough drinker and it goes down fine, but certainly nothing special.

A- clear brownish orange amber with a light and airy beige head. great retention and nice spotty lace.

S- toasted holiday bread, caramel, cinnamon, nutmeg, lots of nice sweetness going on, some milk chocolate as well.

T- sweet and nutty, caramel, metallic, wood and stone, earthy hops, milk chocolate, toffee, the whole combination is like SKOR candy bar. finishes with nice little hoppiness and some weak coffee flavors.

MF- some weight on the tongue, a little juicy but with a slight cloying feel of residual sweetness. low carbonation.

D- a decent amber with some generic tendencies. makes me burp alot despite low low carbonation.

12 oz. bottle 09056-027703, poured into SN pint glass...

A-decent looking two fingers of off white pillowy head with some slight lacing. burnt amber/auburn body...a bit weak on the eyes

S-some melon on the nose with a hint of grapefruit and hops to an extent. very floral with a touch of caramel

T-low hop profile and slightly nutty. low malt profile...nothing really sticking out.

M-watery and low on carbonation

D-despite it's blandness, i find this to be rather quaffable

$5.99 a sixer? sometimes a cheap amber can hit the spot. i won't seek it out, but knowing it's out there when finances could get a bit touch and go...that's a nice feeling.

12 Ounce brown bottle

Appearance: Clear amber color with a decent amount of white head and a little lacing

Smell: This has a bready smell but it is more of a sweet bready smell which is different but good

Taste: This has that same bready flavor at first which leads into a slight hoppy bitterness but only for a second and then finishes off sweet. The sweet finishing flavor only lingers for a short amount of time
