Light and clear brown in color with a thin and lacy pale head. The aroma is subtle and gives off light toasted malt and maple syrup scents. The flavor is also light and hints of the toasted malt are tasted at the front of the drink while a very vague and weak nutty taste comes out in the finish before it ends quickly. The body is very light and watery with moderate carbonation. Sessionable.

Thanks to my sister for sending this one out with a bunch of others from the Detroit area.

This pours medium brown with a nice little head that rises and falls without much lace. The nose is quite weak, but there are roasted nuts here and maybe a little bit of chocolate. But it's all very faint. In the mouth the nuttiness melds with the other flavors, but again everything is pretty faint. The body is thin with maybe a touch too much carbonation, combining for a spritziness that doesn't sit well. I like my English ales on the low end of the carbonation spectrum.

Overall, and I'm not sure why, this seems like a beer that would be much better on draft than out of a bottle. It's not a bad brown, but there are many others that are better, even in this restrained English style.

From tasting notes 9-17-11
Poured into a snifter

Appearance: Dark brown pour with deep amber highlights. A two-finger light tan head settles moderately slowly with mild head retention and a few spotty dollops of lace left behind.

Smell: The aroma is deliciously inviting and smells of rich toasty malts, deep nutty aromas (especially walnut), and some sweet malty and sugary aromas as well.

Taste: There is a deep nutty flavor along with a toasted malt flavor and some roasted nuts. Wow! This is a very delicious beer and I am impressed. The more I drink, the more the flavors meld and blend into a delicious toasty, nutty experience. This is a great beer.

Mouthfeel: Medium body and low to medium carbonation. It has a coating feeling when it sits in the mouth for a several seconds.

Overall: This was an extremely good beer that had nice balance and a wonderful smoothness. A great beer to try if you like the nuttier brown ales.

Pours a deep translucent amber brown with a 1 finger head and descent retention. A lot caramel aromas, toffee, slightly nutty with a hint of fig to it. Tastes pretty much as it smells, caramel, nutty, a little woody and burnt in the middle. Mouth feel is light with a slight astringency to it.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

A - Reddish brown color, with a thin tan head and little lacing. Looks pretty decent.

S - Not too much aroma, some caramel maltiness front and center, with a hint of coffee and burnt sugar behind

T - Slightly sweet and malt forward, with the hops showing up at the last minute to balance with a bitter finish

M - Medium to light with a surprising amount of carbonation

O - A solid brown ale, but lacks a bit in complexity. Pairs nicely with food though, and I could have another

A- dark brown with a big fluffy head that dissipates to a two cm head.

S- malty, buttery, some nutty traits.

T- caramel, buttered toast, sweet malty backbone, not too much hops. Some fruit coming from the malt, I would say a hint of raisin. Light body, quite refreshing.

O- Some great parts of this beer, but it gets held back for not having an umph. Still, session beers for football? Yes please.
