A little research indicated that this beer is contract brewed now by Michigan brewing company and not by Stoney Creek.
Appearance: Pours a clear amber with a tan head that fades fast and no notable lacing on the walls of my SA BL glass.
Smell: A reserved malty nose gives slight whiffs of caramel and slight grassy hop buried deep in some stale bread. Slight sour fruit note.
Taste: A bit of butterscotch diacetyl and caramel segway into the fruity center that is both sweet and tart with a floral grassy bitterness and some pepper spice to finish.
Mouthfeel: It is light, and yet there are enough malts in the thin body to give it a nice slick attribute across the tongue.
Drinkability: The feature of the beer is an easy drinker that is quite approachable and likely a suitable transition beer for many.

My bottle of Frog Island Amber Ale indicates that it's contract brewed by Dark Horse, not by Stoney Creek (now closed) or Michigan Brewing Company (as noted above). Since I wasn't about to add another listing, here goes...
Oktoberfest orange with a fine cloud of yeasties that are being buffeted by bubbles that are zipping up to a pale caramel colored cap. I like the 'dirty' look of the beer, the rich creaminess of the head and the fact that it's gracing the glass with a considerable amount of lace.
Even though the label says 'It's the hops!", I don't appreciate much hoppiness in the nose. I do appreciate toasted, bread crusty malt with an earthiness that makes me think 'Munich malt'. FIAA smells like a marzen-amber hybrid to me. Here's hoping the flavor has a little more going for it.
This is a pretty good amber if you like them more malty than hoppy. I like them to favor hops. Or, at the very least, to be balanced. The flavor profile is dominated by steely caramel, well-toasted whole grain bread, a hint of orange peel and an earthiness that could be coming from any number of sources. It sounds unpleasant, but each time I upend the glass, I'm reminded of a leaf fire on a crisp Autumn afternoon.
The mouthfeel is fine and dandy. It stops short of impressive, but there's really nothing wrong with it either. To be more specific, the beer is medium-bodied and is appropriately carbonated.
While Frog Island Amber Ale is well-crafted, it isn't really my thing. All the more surprising that it went down as easily as it did. It's probably worth a look if you can find a single.

My bottle doesn't say anything about Dark Horse or Stoney Creek, it just says "Ypsilanti, MI." Weird.
Anyway, it pours out a copper, mostly clear color. Quite bubbly. Decent foamy 1-thumb white head. Smells like mild hops. Gentle taste of slight hops with a mild malt background. Quite straight-forward. Mouthfeel is average. Seems like a decent session beer.

Bottle Inspection: No useful information (does mention brewed by Dark Horse)
Aroma: Nose is floral and citric. Flowers are a bit lilac and iris, citric is grapefruit and lemon peel. There is an underlying worty element too, over sweet malt.
Appearance: Hazy copper orange glass shows lots of carbonation streams feeding an oversized sticky white head that clumps and laces. Last pour dumped a load of particulate matter into my glass. Looks mostly like yeast clumps, but some dark flakes as well.
Flavor: Hops are first, they come across as a little leafy and earthy in the taste with a palate smacking dry bitter. Malt has a slightly cola sweetness to it, edging on under attenuated but not really crossing that line. There's a slight metallic finish as well.
Mouthfeel: Over carbonated and fizzy. Medium light body (think the carb level really pushes this toward a lighter feel) and a fairly dry finish.
Overall Impression: Not a great beer, but not a bad one. I'd like to see a lower carbonation level, a little less malt, or more attenuation of what's there, and the hop schedule moved more toward the aroma end rather than the bittering end of the boil.
