Pours a very deep yellow almost golden. Aroma is very interesting and not quite to style. Got a whiff of a white grapes, cider, minor cloves and little bit of yeast. Taste had some Chardonnay or ice wine characteristics. Mouthfeel was good but lacked any carbonation or zestiness that I expect in a Tripel. Nothing special at all and didn't quite fit style for me.
(May not be a totally fair review as I think this bottle may have been a little off.)

MBC boss Bobby Mason brought us an unlabeld bottle of this since it was off the taps. Light in color, almost like a plain ol' beer, but taste is a whole nother matter. A good fluffy tan head comes with the pour. Blending of flavors that I can't begin to sort out, just impressions of cherry, kind of a porter note, and a buttery smoothness. I got the bright idea to try and make a black & tan using this and a Russian Imperial Stout, but had to forego that impulse for now.

Clear, golden with a decent white head. Retention and lacing are poor. Aroma is pungent with cheese and husky grains. Flavor is also quite sharp with a subtle sourness and a lingering, potent cookie sweetness. A different take on the Triple....this is a decent beer, but I'll stick to Final Absolution when in Michigan.

Carefully poured, this beer is fairly clear. It's still slightly hazy, but brighter than many examples of the style. When held to the light it's a wonderful yellow-gold; it takes on an orangish cast when resting on the bar or table. The head is limited but keeps a thin creamy surface covering throughout and leaves some limited lace. Plumes of tiny, slow-rising bubbles add to the appearance. The aroma offers mainly clove, but also some earthiness, light lemony notes, and a mild touch of sweet malt. The body is medium/light with a fine and gently effervescent carbonation that caresses the tongue. The flavor starts with a candy-like sweetness, coat-tailed by clove, and then some soft citrus fruit (mainly orange) followed by more clove at the swallow. Some peppery character appears in the long dry finish. The alcohol isn't completely hidden, but it never really stands out either - well done. My first impression of this beer was that it's a bit heavy handed on the spicing, but as you progress through a goblet it doesn't seem overly agressive. Some aging may help to round out it out.

This beer presents with a heavy musty yeast ester aroma. The heavier medium body and smooth alcohol warmth make this malty, but not sickeningly sweet brew one of the best Belgian ales around.
